Compliance Subject Matter Expert responsible for ensuring UPS and power converter product designs meet IEC standards and EU regulations (including CE marking). Leads the development of compliance expertise within the team while serving as the technical authority for regulatory requirements, guiding products from concept through certification and market access.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures product designs meet IEC standards, EU regulations, and CE marking requirements from the earliest design phases.
- Serves as the technical authority for regulatory compliance within the development program.
- Builds and develops compliance expertise across the engineering organization through mentoring and knowledge transfer.
- Creates compliance strategies, priorities, and roadmaps aligned with business needs and product development timelines.
- Coordinates with cross-functional teams (system architects, validation engineers, manufacturing) to integrate compliance requirements into the design process.
- Reviews and validates designs for regulatory compliance, conducts gap analysis, and develops solutions for certification challenges.
- Manages relationships with certification bodies and external test laboratories.
- Identifies opportunities to streamline compliance processes and enhance business performance through early compliance integration.
- Acts ethically and according to Eaton Values and Philosophy following company rules and policies.
Education level required
Master of Science or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
Years and area of experience required
Minimum of 8 years of experience in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering, preferably with medium voltage power electronics
Technical knowledge
Expert knowledge of IEC standards (such as 62040, 62477 or similar), EU regulations, CE marking requirements, and product certification processes. Experience with power electronics products, understanding of EMC/EMI compliance, safety standards. Advanced understanding of industry regulatory standards and ability to complete qualification planning for complex systems.
Soft skills
Strong communication skills for coordinating with certification bodies and cross-functional teams. Ability to mentor and develop compliance expertise in others. Experience influencing product design decisions and negotiating compliance requirements.
