Job Description Summary

As a Lead Primary Engineer, your main responsibility it to be part of the design and its interfaces of HV substations projects, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this role.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Lead the electromechanical design of high-voltage substations, ensuring technical excellence and full compliance with international (IEC, ANSI, IEEE) and local standards.
  • Strategic Procurement & Specifications: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of technical specifications and purchase requirements, ensuring optimal equipment selection that balances technical performance, quality, and project budget constraints.
  • Risk & Compliance Management: Perform rigorous clause-by-clause analysis of contractual requirements to identify potential risks or deviations, proactively managing technical queries (TQs) to minimize design changes and project delays.
  • Multidisciplinary Integration: Orchestrate cross-functional collaboration between engineering disciplines, ensuring seamless integration of electromechanical systems into the overall substation design architecture.
  • Operational Support & Site Optimization: Provide high-level technical guidance to construction and commissioning teams; leverage site-specific insights and field data to refine detailed design packages and improve buildability.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Oversight: Manage engineering subcontractors for assigned work packages, enforcing strict adherence to technical specifications, project schedules, and quality assurance protocols.
  • EHS & Quality Stewardship: Champion safety-by-design principles, ensuring all project deliverables meet stringent contractual EHS requirements and company quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Automation & Control Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering activities as lead primary engineer in EPC or EEP type environment in Transmission & Distribution Power Systems, Power Gen or industry.
  • Proven professional experience in the Venezuelan energy sector, with a deep understanding of local regulatory requirements, technical standards (e.g., COVENIN), and specific grid operational characteristics
  • Fluent Spanish proficiency.
  • Advanced English proficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations, standards, and the market for high and extra-high voltage electrical substations in Latin America, with a focus on Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru.
  • Strong understanding of high voltage power transformers, shunt reactors, circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers and medium voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of high voltage products, substation engineering design and services.
  • Familiarity with international and standards for substations (IEEE, IEC, ANSI).
  • Experience in technical problem solving
  • Ability and willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally for meetings, site visits and trainings.
