Position: Lead Porter
Department: Facilities
Performs lead custodial duties to meet established cleanliness and quality standards in such areas as public area walkways, restrooms, and office areas of the Gaming Enterprise Division’s (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the fourth in a series of five (5) classifications. Incumbents work at a high level of expertise, exercise judgment and independence in performance of duties, and lead the work of others.
Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
- Performs the duties of Porter 1, 2, and 3.
- Coordinates, assigns, and inspects the work activities of an assigned group of team members.
- Schedules and inspects the work of crews performing specialized tasks such as cleaning floors and windows.
- Provides guidance in directing the completion of work activities.
- Serves as a mentor and coach for Porters.
- Identifies the need for major repairs or additions to building operating supplies and notifies management
- Recommends purchases of cleaning equipment and materials and ensures storerooms are adequately stocked.
- Recommends new methods to promote efficiency and reduce costs.
- Recommends training programs for team members; conducts some training programs.
- Assists supervisor with administrative functions such as writing and issuing call logs and contributing to performance appraisals.
- Assists supervisor with employee relations matters such as conducting investigations.
- Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; uses as directed.
- Sweep, scrub, and mop rooms, halls, stairway, and offices; strips, , refinishes, waxes, or buffs floors; vacuums and shampoos rugs and carpets; operates porter equipment including buffers, floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, and vacuum cleaners.
- Empty, clean, move, and sanitize waste receptacles and ashtrays; picks up papers and other debris; empties sharpeners as necessary.
- Dust, clean, and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; remove cob webs; clean desks and countertops.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, floor mats, doors, drinking fountains and fixtures; restocks and may order supplies as needed; ensures specified sanitary standards are maintained; may perform minor pest control tasks in buildings.
- Wash walls; remove markings on walls, rest room stalls, countertops, and desks; washes windows, mirrors, and blinds; cleans filters.
- Move furniture, equipment, or other heavy objects on request or for set-up of company functions, meetings, and special events, utilizing pallet jacks, hand trucks, or similar equipment; makes minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
- Supports and enforces departmental as well as the GED’s policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory policies, such as completion of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Turns in found articles in accordance with Facilities and GED policies and procedures.
- Attends periodic departmental and GED meetings; attends professional and personal development training programs.
- Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with assigned employees, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work directions
- Oversees and participates in the more difficult work of porter staff; oversees and coordinates assignments for assigned custodial staff; maintains buildings and furniture in a clean, sanitary, safe, and secure condition during an assigned shift; cleans and performs minor maintenance repairs on assigned equipment
- Leads, plans, trains, and reviews the work of assigned Porter staff; inspects completed work; assures that work is performed in compliance with instructions, meeting quality standards
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential functions of the position:
- Must be able to constantly lift and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder height, handle, pull, kneel, stoop, squat, grip, crouch, climb, crawl, twist, push, balance and bend for duties, including inspections and work in confined or cramped spaces, indoor/outdoor events, uneven surfaces, and up or down stairs.
- May be exposed to chemical, fumes, cleaning agents and other hazardous materials.
- Must be able to perform primary job duties while exposed to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments for extended durations.
- Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
- Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests, team members and internal/external vendors positively and professionally.
- Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
- Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to drive/travel to or work at all CDS properties or any other events necessary for this specific role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards as well as hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of departmental and the GED’s internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of scheduling team members and projects.
- Skill in coordinating the completion of projects and the work activities of others.
- Skill in using cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards safely and correctly.

- Ability to use, care, and operation of assigned equipment including carpet cleaners and floor buffers.
- Ability to verify work of assigned team members for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow procedures to handle and store chemicals properly as well as maintain log of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Ability to complete program Training Courses as needed within a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year cleaning services experience, preferably in a multi-purpose building setting, such as a gaming, hotel, and convention center complex.
- Must successfully pass Porter 3 exercise/audition.
- Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and initiative.
- Demonstrated track record of providing superior guest service.
- Must be able to work (may require shift changes), weekends, holidays, and special events), as needed.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
- Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
- Must be able to obtain, and retain a valid gaming license/background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
The Gaming Enterprise Division and the Tribal Enterprise Division (collectively Casino Del Sol) are divisions of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. As a result, preferential hiring will go in this order to: (1) enrolled members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (2) Spouses and biological and adopted children of enrolled Pascua Yaqui Tribal members who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (3) Enrolled member of other Federal recognized Tribes who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; and (4) all others who meet the position’s minimum qualifications.
