Job Description

Position: Lead Porter

Department: Facilities

Performs lead custodial duties to meet established cleanliness and quality standards in such areas as public area walkways, restrooms, and office areas of the Gaming Enterprise Division’s (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the fourth in a series of five (5) classifications. Incumbents work at a high level of expertise, exercise judgment and independence in performance of duties, and lead the work of others.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  1. Performs the duties of Porter 1, 2, and 3.
  2. Coordinates, assigns, and inspects the work activities of an assigned group of team members.
  3. Schedules and inspects the work of crews performing specialized tasks such as cleaning floors and windows.
  4. Provides guidance in directing the completion of work activities.
  5. Serves as a mentor and coach for Porters.
  6. Identifies the need for major repairs or additions to building operating supplies and notifies management
  7. Recommends purchases of cleaning equipment and materials and ensures storerooms are adequately stocked.
  8. Recommends new methods to promote efficiency and reduce costs.
  9. Recommends training programs for team members; conducts some training programs.
  10. Assists supervisor with administrative functions such as writing and issuing call logs and contributing to performance appraisals.
  11. Assists supervisor with employee relations matters such as conducting investigations.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards as well as hazardous materials.
  2. Knowledge of departmental and the GED’s internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  3. Knowledge of scheduling team members and projects.
  4. Skill in coordinating the completion of projects and the work activities of others.
  5. Skill in using cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards safely and correctly.
  6. Strong organizational, planning, time management, and communication skills.
  7. Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  8. Ability to determine and use the appropriate cleaning products and equipment for tasks.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  10. Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail.
  11. Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  12. Ability to complete work assignments efficiently and effectively.
  13. Ability to identify and correct unsafe practices and conditions.
  14. Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment.
  15. Ability to understand and follow procedures to handle and store chemicals properly as well as maintain log of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  16. Ability to work in a fast paced environment that may sometimes be stressful.
  17. Ability to maintain the physical stamina required, including an ability to stand for long periods.
  18. Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  19. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and crouch and reach objects above shoulder height.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. One (1) year cleaning services experience, preferably in a multi-purpose building setting, such as a gaming, hotel, and convention center complex AND verbal and reading fluency in English AND must successfully pass Porter 3 exercise/audition.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead others.
  3. Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and initiative.
  4. Demonstrated track record of providing superior guest service.
  5. Must be able to maintain the physical stamina required, including an ability to stand for long periods.
  6. Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  7. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.
  8. Must be able to work in a smoking environment.
  9. Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  10. Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  2. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

The Gaming Enterprise Division and the Tribal Enterprise Division (collectively Casino Del Sol) are divisions of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. As a result, preferential hiring will go in this order to: (1) enrolled members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (2) Spouses and biological and adopted children of enrolled Pascua Yaqui Tribal members who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (3) Enrolled member of other Federal recognized Tribes who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; and (4) all others who meet the position’s minimum qualifications.
