Job Description

About Automated Logic

At Automated Logic, we've been developing and supporting intelligent building solutions that have helped customers, including small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations, operate their buildings more efficiently for over 40 years. Our products help reduce energy consumption, lower utility, operating and maintenance costs, and improve indoor air quality, occupant comfort, and productivity. Technology that supports the buildings and industry of today and tomorrow requires a wide range of talents and skill sets.

About This Role

Our work increasingly sits at the intersection of OT controls, SCADA, and enterprise data. We deploy Ignition SCADA, Rockwell Automation PLCs, and open industrial protocols to provide deep, trustworthy visibility into mechanical plants, electrical distribution, and power quality without locking customers into brittle or opaque architectures.

We are seeking lead-level PLC/SCADA Engineers who bring strong technical judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to design solutions that keep working years after handoff.

Scope of Position:

As a Lead PLC/SCADA Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority for data center automation and electrical power monitoring systems.

You will lead the design of Ignition-based SCADA platforms integrated with Rockwell PLC control systems, electrical power monitoring devices, and third‑party subsystems. You will influence how systems are modeled, how data flows, and how operators interact with critical infrastructure across single sites and multi‑site portfolios.

This role carries technical ownership, cross‑disciplinary influence, and mentorship expectations. You are someone others come to when the system behavior matters, not just whether it “works.”

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structured tag models and UDT standards
  • Alarm philosophy, prioritization, and suppression strategies
  • Historian strategy, data fidelity, and performance
  • Gateway topology, redundancy, and failover behavior
  • Define and integrate Rockwell Automation PLC architectures (ControlLogix / CompactLogix) for:
    • Mechanical plant systems
    • Electrical distribution and EPMS
    • Generator, UPS, and switchgear monitoring
  • Establish integration strategies using open protocols:
    • BACnet/IP
    • Modbus TCP
    • OPC UA
    • SNMP
  • Partner with IT/Network teams to design secure, segmented OT networks (VLANs, routing boundaries, gateway placement).
  • Lead technical decisions around scalability, redundancy, and fault tolerance in Tier III / Tier IV-style environments.
  • Develop and review system architecture documentation, control philosophies, and sequences of operation.
  • Guide and review Ignition Vision / Perspective designs, ensuring graphics prioritize operations, diagnostics, and clarity.
  • Support FAT, SAT, integrated testing, and commissioning activities, including troubleshooting emergent system behaviors.
  • Identify technical risk early, protocol limitations, vendor quirks, performance bottlenecks, and ability to design around them.
  • Mentor senior and mid‑level engineers, setting expectations for code quality, modeling discipline, and documentation.
  • Act as a technical voice in customer discussions, helping set realistic expectations and defend sound engineering decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of Controls industry experience OR Associate Degree with 6+ years of Controls industry experience OR High School Diploma OR GED with 8+ years of Controls industry experience.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and supporting SCADA and control systems in live facilities
  • 4+ years of Rockwell Automation PLC experience with ControlLogix / CompactLogix platforms
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ignition SCADA (Inductive Automation) at scale
    • UDT-driven designs
    • Alarm pipelines and strategy
    • Gateway configuration, redundancy, and performance tuning
  • Data center or other mission‑critical infrastructure experience, including:
    • Central utility plants
    • Electrical power distribution and monitoring
    • Redundant system architectures
    • Strong understanding of industrial Ethernet and OT networking
  • Experience integrating third-party electrical devices
    • Chillers
    • CRACS
    • Power Quality Meters
    • Breakers
    • UPS
    • Generators
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, operators, and stakeholders
