Job Description

Within the Manulife / John Hancock Global Wealth & Asset Management (GWAM), the Platform Services group reports to the Director of Platform PaaS Services.

The Lead Reliability Engineer (Director level but individual contributor) is responsible for managing our Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure PaaS, CI/CD pipeline, platform roadmaps to delivery, and accountable for platform efficiencies.  Act as Subject Matter Expert on platform for internal clients and teams within the organization. Lead KPI development, and drive implementation of best practices.  Champion adoption of standards around platform management, compliance, and security patterns. 

Optimizing product performance and in turn maximizing business value of the platform.  Plan and lead platform evolutions, including upgrades and feature enhancements by working in collaboration with internal stakeholders and vendors.

Ownership of customer issues from inception to resolution. Assist in investigation and resolution of all client, product/platform issues in a multi-vendor environment. Manage multiple cases involving a variety of technologies, protocols, and equipment.  Responsible for consistent delivery of product services on a 24/7 basis within well-defined Service Level Agreement.

Work location: Boston - USA or Toronto - Canada or Waterloo - Canada or Halifax - Canada

Work arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days from nearest office, 2 days from Home.

Remote working option is not available.

Position Responsibilities:

Lead Reliability Engineer will advise and implement for Platform Services on Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure PaaS, CI/CD pipeline, and platform roadmaps. Proactively assist in the management of Azure subscriptions and services, while reporting to Senior Managers and above.

  • Be involved in the Azure financial management/cost savings

  • Strong experience in AKS and Azure platform is required

  • Contribute to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen

  • Develop strategies to solve complex technical challenges

  • Assist in the management and delivering of large projects

  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing within GWAM

  • Continue to develop internal relationships

  • Upgrades planning and management

  • Governance of Security Model and Risk Solutions transition to operations.

  • Third party solutions deployment

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, other IS groups, operational support teams and vendors to ensure GWAM segment requirements are understood.

  • This role being a individual contributor role at the Director level, requires leadership strength and capabilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years industry experience is required

  • At least 5 + years with specific hands-on experience in the support and administration of Azure. Deep experience with Azure architecture, best practices and the AKS/IAAS/PAAS/CICD pipeline eco-system, in-depth understanding of constraints of various Azure Services (Azure PaaS: AKS, ASE, DataBricks, ADL, Redis, KeyVault, Functions, Synapse, ML, New Relic, DEVO, Azure Monitor)

  • Experience working with Agile methodologies and DevOps (CI/CD, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Helm, Flux)

  • Broad knowledge of other related technical disciplines: Operating systems. middleware, database, capacity, performance management (SQLMI, MongoDB, Cosmos DB)(Load balancer: ISTIO, Azure ILB, NGINX)

  • Ability to effectively communicate, cooperate, and collaborate; ability to lead and influence technical peers and decision makers

  • Knowledge of financial models and budgeting; ability to estimate the financial impact of technology alternatives and to balance costs against benefits.

  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University degree (Computer Science or related discipline preferred) or equivalent experience.

  • 5 + years of experience in a large, multinational organization, experience within financial services or insurance industry preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Azure certification(s) are highly preferred

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and vendor landscape; ability to quickly comprehend the functions, capabilities, and impact of new technologies.

For Hiring in Boston - USA, Base Salary range: $127,330 USD - $181,900 USD (mid-point) - $236,470 USD

Salary range is expected to be between

$113,260.00 CAD - $210,340.00 CAD
