AsLeadPhlebotomy Technician, you willensure theInpatientPhlebotomy, OutpatientLab and the Specimen Processing areamaintaina continuous workflow.In this role, you willcompleteassociated duties, such asdrawingblood, transportingspecimensandinterpreting physician ordersDespite serving in a leadership role, you will still serveas a team member,showingexceptionalcustomer servicetofacilitatea positive patient experienceAll the while, you will continue developing your clinical skills within an exciting,invitingand supportive healthcare environment.
A caregiver in this position worksfull-time|4:00am—12:30pm, weekends if needed, holiday rotation (2/year).
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Handle internal and external customer service issues/concerns andinitiateany necessary follow-up.
Communicate to thestaffall procedural changes and/or problemspertinent to the delivery of healthcare.
Inthe absenceof Supervisor or Team Leader, serveas thepointperson for problem resolutionin a timely manner
Collect blood samples from all patients using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques.
Interpret physician orders for sample collection.
Instruct patients in the proper technique for collecting various specimens.
Processspecimens and enter results for tests referred to reference laboratories.
Deliver all samples collected to the Laboratory Accession Area for processing.
Ensuresafetyandattend to any patient who faints or becomes ill.
Coordinate orientation and training schedules
Assist Supervisor/Team Leader to ensuresectionis in compliance withaccrediting and regulatory agency standards and safety guidelines.
Assistin the training of Phlebotomy studentsand the orientation of new employees.
Participate in and/or conduct in-services and continuing education programs.
Attendworkshops,seminarsand lectures to keep current on new procedures and equipment.
Maintain inventory system for Laboratory stock and Outpatient Drawing Areas.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory
Proficiencyin infant and pediatricphlebotomy
Demonstrated leadership and training experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s Degree
Phlebotomy Certification
Physical Requirements:
Light lifting and carrying, under 15 lbs.
Use of fingers and both hands required.
Walking, standing and bending.
Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.
Must have depth perception.
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. In some positions, this includes receiving and recording information from patients at their bedside.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
