Manages specialized research personnel and trainee appointment programs to support compliant, accurate, and timely engagement in research activities. Provides operational leadership, financial and administrative oversight, and risk-based guidance to ensure appointment requirements meet organizational and regulatory standards.

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions

  • Directs specialized appointment processes throughout the engagement lifecycle and ensures timely, accurate status administration.
  • Oversees financial and administrative requirements and provides guidance that supports appropriate funding, compensation, and institutional decision-making.
  • Leads onboarding and offboarding processes and ensures required reviews, documentation, training, and authorization are completed.
  • Develops, interprets, and maintains program policies, procedures, standards, and educational resources.
  • Evaluates complex engagements for organizational risk and coordinates appropriate review, safeguards, escalation, and resolution.
  • Supervises program staff, establishes service expectations, and supports performance, development, and accountability.
  • Leads process improvement, quality, and monitoring efforts to strengthen compliance, reduce risk, and improve service delivery.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required.
  • Master’s Degree, preferred.

Skills

Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive personnel, financial, and compliance information.

Experience

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, human resources, academic or trainee appointments, regulatory compliance, sponsored programs, or a related field, including at least two years of experience leading staff, programs, or complex cross-functional processes.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, regulations, contracts, or institutional requirements to complex individual circumstances.
  • Experience managing appointments, onboarding, credentialing, or personnel processes that fall outside standard employment workflows.
  • Experience coordinating complex matters involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying risk, escalating high-risk matters, and documenting decisions and required controls.
  • Experience supervising staff or providing formal program leadership.
