Job Description

  • Based in our Perth or Brisbane office
  • Team Leader. High impact, commercially strategic studies role
  • Cross-commodity exposure - Concept, Scoping, PFS & DFS studies
  • Advisory, Valuation & Due Diligence

The MEC Approach

We're growing sustainably by design, so we can build careers that last. As the mining sector continues to evolve, our people have real expertise that stands up to scrutiny. They become the technical specialists, the peer reviewers, the trusted go-to experts.

A career that builds steadily and stays interesting without the bureaucracy? That’s what we’re offering.

Why consider this role?

It’s newly created and you’ll get to grow and develop your own team.

Perhaps you’re a bit tired of the big-shop experience, where it can take layers of process to get things moving, and you're expected to stay in your lane. At MEC, you'll get;

  • Direct access to senior leadership team and technical subject matter experts.
  • A peer group that understands your technical, commercial and strategic challenges
  • In-house training and a mentoring framework (that isn’t just a line on a page).
  • Remit to take ownership of new software (if that’s your thing).
  • Broad client base and spread of commodities (graphite, vanadium, copper, gold, tin, met coal, mineral sands and base metals)
  • Integrated teams across open pit mining, geology, geotechnical engineering, processing, environmental and permitting.

Make an impact on complex & career-defining projects

Beyond running studies and owning technical outcomes, you’ll help us grow the team, mentor and develop, strengthen client partnerships and contribute to business growth.

Working alongside our specialised discipline teams and management group, here’s what your first year in role could look like;

  • DFS level study for a large graphite producer.
  • Integrated open pit & underground gold PFS. Potential tips to site to coordinate technical services team.
  • Trade-off studies, conceptual mine planning and PFS engineering for a new open cut copper-gold mine.
  • Multi-discipline due diligence on a met coal asset being sold.
  • Earthmoving contractor bid. Mine design, Coal Reserve estimation, LOM scheduling and cost modelling.

Worth Being Upfront About

We get mistaken for being a labour hire firm, but you can rest assured that we're a specialist mining consultancy with a large studies division.

You’ll have several projects running at once. Some of the newer commodities don’t have a well-worn playbook, so you’ll need to understand value drivers quickly.

There may be the odd stretch of longer hours near a deadline, which can be recovered as time in lieu. You could also be asked to do the occasional site visit. Part of this job is winning the next piece of work. You’ll need to be comfortable building relationships and spotting opportunities.

The Perks?

  • 5 weeks annual leave.
  • Quarterly performance-based bonuses.
  • Regular networking & client events, including sundowners.
  • Flexible working options to suit commitments & life outside of work.
  • Internal recognition programs. Employee of the Month & service milestones.
  • Employee referral bonuses ($2,500–$10,000).
  • Professional memberships (Reimbursed). Support for further studies / training.
  • We'll do our best to grow your capability, align your work with your expertise & interests.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary level qualifications – Mining Engineering.
  • Hands on experience leading & delivering mining study packages (concept through to DFS).
  • A knack for business development & relationship building.
  • Ability to advise on strategic project evaluation & investment decisions.
  • Technical leadership & project management skills.
  • Keen interest in mentoring & coaching.
  • Full unrestricted working rights in Australia
