Job Description

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a Millwright Lead Person for our Bogalusa, LA facility. This position works a weekend shift schedule consisting of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

This position is responsible for leading the daily activities of the maintenance team while actively performing mechanical maintenance and repairs on production equipment and plant infrastructure. The Millwright Lead Person ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, coordinates maintenance priorities, mentors' maintenance personnel, and promotes a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion a culture of reliability within the maintenance department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision making and encouraging a focus on proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Provides work directions to the maintenance team and provides quality operational repairs and preventative maintenance services.
  • Use all proper and necessary tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Performs duties necessary to maintain upkeep of the lumber mill. These include:
  • Repairing/replacing belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts in a production environment.
  • Monitoring the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiating reordering when necessary.
  • Performing metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when necessary.
  • Repairing/replacing hydraulic units – oiling units and equipment (chains/sprockets).
  • Operating a forklift, mobile crane or other rolling stock on occasion.
  • Communicate regularly with co-workers and management to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Reviews the operation of mill equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
  • Understands and remains aware of monthly, weekly, and daily numbers regarding efficiency, productivity, downtime, quality, and safety.
  • Implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Leads safety, health, and environmental policies and practices within team. Responds to and leads repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or Safety Manager.
  • Assist and train other millwrights and/or technical level employees.
  • May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the mill, as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years industrial maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
  • Must successfully pass Hood Industries’ Maintenance Certification Process at the Millwright AA level.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership and team skills.
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Willing and able to pull and lift to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work the weekend shift (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in working in wood products.
  • Experience operating a forklift.

Pay Range: $38.74
