Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Medical Technologist to support daily operations within a fast-growing, high-complexity laboratory. This role will provide technical leadership across multiple departments including molecular, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology, ensuring quality, efficiency, and full compliance with CLIA regulations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, a passion for process improvement, and experience working in high-throughput laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Performance & Result Integrity

  • Perform high-complexity testing across multiple departments in accordance with CLIA standards and internal SOPs
  • Review, verify, and release patient results with accuracy; serve as the escalation point for complex testing questions and troubleshooting
  • Maintain instrumentation through QC, calibration, and routine maintenance, flag issues early and follow through on resolution

Workflow & Throughput

  • Support daily operations across PCR, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, culture, and hematology to meet TAT goals at 80,000+ test volumes
  • Identify bottlenecks and drive process improvements that increase throughput without compromising accuracy; coordinate specimen flow and prioritization to hit daily production targets

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to CLIA, QA, and safety standards in day-to-day bench work
  • Maintain accurate documentation, SOP compliance, and data integrity; support inspection readiness and internal audit preparation

Training & Technical Mentorship

  • Train and mentor lab staff on testing procedures, troubleshooting, and quality standards; support competency assessments
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, leads by example at the bench, not just in conversation

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field
  • MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification required
  • 3–5+ years of clinical laboratory experience, including high-complexity testing
  • Strong working knowledge of PCR/molecular diagnostics and multi-department lab operations
  • Solid understanding of CLIA regulations and quality systems

Preferred

  • Prior lead or bench-level supervisory experience in a high-volume laboratory environment
  • Hands-on microbiology experience: culture technique, organism identification, susceptibility testing
  • Experience with automated and semi-automated instrumentation in a high-throughput setting
  • Background in workflow optimization or lab scale-up environments

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical depth across multiple lab disciplines
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts; comfortable working through ambiguous problems without waiting for someone to hand you the answer
  • Clear communicator who can explain technical issues to colleagues and clinicians alike
  • Process-minded
  • Calm under pressure and effective when the workload spikes

Salary and Shift:

  • Salary: $32-$38/hour
  • Shift: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a rapidly growing lab at a genuinely interesting stage, early enough to shape how things are built
  • Work across a broad test menu in a high-volume environment that keeps the work interesting
  • Collaborative, quality-focused culture where technical skill is recognized and developed
  • Real opportunities for career growth, this role grows as the lab grows
