Job Description

As the Lead Mechanic - Data Center, you will support the day-to-day management of mechanical systems and mission-critical equipment within a high-performance data center environment. You will take the lead on coordinating field activities, managing HVAC and plumbing systems, and ensure all mechanical equipment is operating at peak performance. You will supervise maintenance schedules, troubleshoot complex issues, and serve as the go-to expert for mechanical systems on site. You will oversee vendors, coordinate emergency response efforts, and contribute to long-term planning initiatives focused on uptime, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with on-site field coordination, supervision, and project management support for data center operations, with emphasis on mechanical systems and equipment.
• Support operation and maintenance of mission critical systems and integrated facility infrastructure, including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
• Serve as onsite subject matter expert for mechanical/HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and technical support.
• Manage and support preventative and emergency maintenance programs, including scheduling, execution, inspections, and oversight of maintenance providers.
• Perform and oversee routine inspections and maintenance activities, including required monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance tasks.
• Self-perform mechanical/HVAC preventative maintenance activities, including filter changes, generator operating tests, and UPS/ATS/STS transfer tests and operation.
• Oversee vendors and subcontractors to ensure proper installation of equipment and delivery of maintenance services in accordance with operational standards.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and facility emergencies, coordinating and overseeing resolution to maintain uptime and reliability.
• Monitor system performance, report discrepancies and trends to operations teams and clients, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to development and maintenance of operational standards, including Change Control Programs, MOPs, SOPs, ERPs, safety procedures, and work rules.
• Support inventory management, spare parts planning, and life cycle replacement strategies for critical systems.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Degree or Equivalent
• Licenses/Certificates/Designations: Technical Degree or specialized experience/training in Mechanical or HVAC system
• 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Lead in a supervisory role or with growing responsibilities over time
• Knowledge of construction planning, mechanical or electrical systems necessary, building controls, fire systems, and security systems
• Knowledge of building automation systems
• Must be technically proficient in planning and scheduling, and exhibit excellent organizational skills
• Must possess strong communication skills, the ability to lead coordination meetings and actively facilitate progress in order to achieve scheduled goals
• Must have people skills, good judgment, and flexibility
• Able to work cooperatively with internal administration groups, and effectively negotiate with customers and contractors to reach mutually acceptable terms and conditions
• Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word
• Ability to travel 0% - 25%

Working Environment: Data Center – The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment during regular operation and in emergency situations. Lifting up to 50 lbs, regular bending, stooping, climbing and long periods of walking/standing will be required.

Physical Expectations:

• Work is physically strenuous and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds
• Work may require excessive bending or stooping
• Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day
• Employee required to use hand tools.

This amount is what we reasonably believe we will pay for the position; however, offer amounts may vary based on factors such as geographic location, relevant education, experience, qualifications, skills, shift, or any collective bargaining agreements.

For eligible positions, compensation may include participation in a bonus or sales incentive plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents.
