Lead Mechanic

Pay Range: $65,991.00 - 98,987.00

Location: Castle Rock, CO

Elected Office / Department: FACILITIES AND FLEET SERVICES

This is Master Technician level work with a leadership role. This position performs preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on County vehicles and equipment and assists the shop supervisor as needed.

Generally, the hiring range is $65,991-$82,489 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

This position includes an annual clothing allowance of $150 and a monthly tool allowance of $100.

Typical work schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, additional overtime hours may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  • Repairs automotive and heavy construction equipment to include; the repair of gasoline and/or diesel engines; repair of electrical systems including lights, wiring and A/C and D/C motors; repair of hydraulic, air cooling and pneumatic systems; repair and adjustment to drive train and brakes.
  • Repairs to snow and ice equipment to include computerized controls, electric over hydraulic controls, sanders, pre-wet and anti-ice liquid systems.
  • Inspects defective and malfunctioning equipment and performs diagnostic tests using engine and charging system analyzers, pressure gauges, laptop computers with diagnostic software and other equipment as required.
  • Dismantles and repairs internal combustion engines, transmissions, pumps, auxiliary equipment, generators, compressors and clutches.
  • Changes lubricants and filters. Performs other preventive maintenance functions as necessary. Performs safety inspections on any/all County equipment.
  • Performs service calls in the field. May recommend evacuation of equipment to a primary repair facility or outside vendor. Service calls may also be required after normal shop hours on an on-call basis.
  • On-Call during forecasted snow event timeframes and snowstorms to support Public Works snow removal operations.
  • Provides assistance to the shop supervisor as needed in the form of opening and closing work orders, organizing and scheduling work in the shop and assigning work as needed.
  • Provides assistance and support to other mechanics, being a subject matter expert in their field.
  • Point of contact for internal customers and fleet employees when their Shop Supervisor is not available.
  • Backs up the shop supervisor when they are not in the office (flex days, sick days, vacation days, etc.) This will require the incumbent to work an opposing flex schedule from their shop supervisor to provide coverage on their flex days.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Graduation from automotive or heavy equipment technical training school is preferred.Six (6) years of automotive/diesel mechanical experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Initiative to continue growth and knowledge with related classes and trainings that are being offered.CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.

Possession of or ability to obtain a Colorado Class "B" CDL drivers permit withing 90 days and license with no "E" restriction within 2 years from date of hire. Class “A” is preferred.

Possession of or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment: Aire Pollution Control Division Diesel Fleet Self-Certification Program inspection card.

Possession of or ability to obtain certification to service or repair A/C systems and perform heavy duty opacity diesel emissions.

Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or manufacturer certifications a plus.

Successful Completion of Douglas County innovation League (DCIL) preferred

This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
