Lead Management Accountant

Summary:

The Lead Management Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial information while supporting the effective operation of the finance function. The role plays a key part in month-end close, financial reporting, audit support, and continuous improvement, while also providing guidance and oversight to junior team members.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Prepare and review month-end and year-end journal entries, reconciliations, and balances
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of period-end close activities
  • Prepare or review statutory accounts and management reporting packs
  • Support compliance with accounting standards, group policies, and internal controls

Controls, Compliance & Audit

  • Maintain strong balance sheet control through robust reconciliations and issue resolution
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and responses
  • Identify and remediate control gaps or process weaknesses
  • Ensure adherence to SOX / internal control frameworks where applicable

Business & Stakeholder Support

  • Act as a finance contact for internal stakeholders, responding to queries and providing insight
  • Analyse financial data and explain variances to non-finance stakeholders
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis as required

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise, and automate accounting processes
  • Contribute to finance transformation or system implementation projects
  • Document processes and support continuous improvement initiatives

Team Support & Development

  • Review work completed by junior accountants / finance associates for accuracy and quality
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to team members
  • Support knowledge sharing and best practice within the finance team

Work Experience Requirements

  • Number of Overall Years Necessary: minimum of 8 years relevant experience in a finance or accounting role is desirable
  • A third-level qualification in business or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in a similar role, with a good understanding of the responsibilities listed above.

Education Requirements

  • Degree in Business or a related discipline

Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge:

  • Completion of a Professional Accounting Qualification CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • A strong knowledge of MS Excel is a prerequisite for this position
  • Experience of SAP would be a distinct advantage.
