Lead Lifeguard | Papatoetoe Centennial Pool and Leisure Centre

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure Department has an opportunity for a Lead within the Pools and Leisure team, based atPapatoetoe Centennial Pool and Leisure Centre.

As a functional expert, you’ll support the Team Leader by providing day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and technical expertise. You’ll play a key role in ensuring programmes, services, and customer experiences are delivered to an exceptional standard, while fostering a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment for both customers and staff.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on the following:

  • Leading shifts, programmes, or activities and acting as the first escalation point for customer issues
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members
  • Delivering high-quality programmes, services, or lessons in your specialist area
  • Supporting recruitment, induction, and training of new team members
  • Responding to incidents and emergencies, including First Aid situations

This is an on-site position, working 40 hours across 7 days a week; shifts may vary in line with the roster and operational needs of the center.

Our center opens from 5am to 8pm; flexibility and availability to work weekdays, weekends, and rostered hours are essential.

You’ll have a passion for aquatics and enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with customers and colleagues to improve water safety. You will be an excellent communicator and committed to delivering exceptional aquatic programmes and providing a high level of customer satisfaction.

Joining an energetic and passionate team, you’ll be a keen team player with a flexible approach and be able to take the initiative to help drive a positive safety culture.

We are looking for people who:

  • are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others and your team
  • hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) and first-aid certificate
  • have experience in supporting an indoor pool
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Cultural competence and a willingness to engage with Te Ao Māori and tikanga
  • Confidence using technology and digital tools

Pay rate $30.02 per hour (Our employer KiwiSaver contribution is in addition to the base salary offered.)
