Basic Purpose The Sooner Job ChalleNGe Program serves up to sixty 17- to 21-year-old “At-Risk” youth. The Program combines classroom work, technical school training, community service, physical training, and team-building activities to enhance the life-skills and employability potential of these youth. Additional major elements of the program are: career skills, healthy living, citizenship, leadership/followership, discipline, physical fitness, resiliency and life skills, practical job skills training and character development. The position of Lead Instructor serves as Principal and the resident authority on education serving the participants of the Sooner Job ChalleNGe Program as they work toward a HS diploma or GED. The position is also responsible for coordinating the enrollment process of students with Epic Charter School as well as enrollment with various Vocational Career Training Programs. This position will oversee all aspects of these partnerships and perform a variety of other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The position reports to the Program Deputy Director and will supervise a staff of one (1) Oklahoma certified teacher.
Essential Functions:
Administrative:
· Coordinate curriculum development and manage student enrollment with EPIC charter schools. Attend all IEP meetings with EPIC Charter School staff.
· Ensure curriculum meets required legislated and program standards.
· Schedule, supervise and evaluate the educational process for program students, to include GED academic classes, high school credit recovery, educational field trips, vocational courses, and other activities relating to the curriculum as necessary.
· Coordinate and schedule testing including but not limited to GED and academic achievement testing using the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education).
· Responsible for gathering, preparing, and documenting student’s academic statistical data upon Sooner Job ChalleNGe enrollment and completion.
· Primary point of contact for parents regarding education questions relating to their student.
Managerial:
· Supervise, direct, and evaluate the performance of the certified instructional staff to include interviewing and recommend hiring.
· Coordinate with other departments on program improvement and cooperative activities, must be a team player.
· Enforce program rules and policies in accordance with the Master Youth Programs Cooperative Agreement (MYPCA) and Oklahoma Military Department guidelines.
· Perform additional duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to handle confidential information; exercise judgment in interpreting and applying rules or policy; must be computer savvy to include basic software programs. Must possess the ability to be an effective communicator, problem solver, and a self-starter. Must remain calm and professional under stressful conditions.
Education and Experience: BA/BS and Oklahoma Teacher Certification required with documented supervisory experience. MA/MS preferred with prior principal duty experience.
Licenses/Certificates required Current Oklahoma Teacher’s certificate
