We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lead Engineer to create new-to-world technology and differentiated products within the medical industry. Advanced Engineering in Cork is focused on developing next-generation concepts for Electrosurgery generators, including pulsed electric field technologies, ablation treatments, and other surgical energy applications. This role also encompasses exploring high-efficiency power supply architectures for advanced applications in industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

Research & Innovation:

  • Contribute to the conception and development of advanced electrosurgical generators and related technologies
  • Explore and develop emerging technologies in power electronics, surgical energy delivery, and high-efficiency power conversion
  • Translate research insights into practical prototypes and future product concepts

Product Design:

  • Design and analysis of systems products and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule and quality goals
  • Drive critical thinking and problem-solving across complex engineering challenges
  • Assumes responsibility for the success of the technology readiness and the delivery of proven proof-of-concept platforms
  • Engage proactively with customers to understand the product/system in the customers’ applications and recommend/implement corrective actions or enhancements as needed
  • Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies for surgical energy applications
  • Collaborate with Product Development teams to review and transfer technology to enable the successful development and launch of new products
  • Collaborate with departments, such as New Product Implementation, purchasing, quality, program management, finance, safety, production, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards for power solutions for medical devices
  • Provide expert guidance on power electronics design, control strategies, and system integration

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers
  • Drive career development through coaching, training, and performance management

Work Environment:

  • Location: Cork – on site
  • Works in a standard office and lab environment
  • Domestic and International travel of up to 10%
  • Interfaces with internal & external customers in all functional areas

Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Proven track record of developing power electronics prototypes and products
  • Experience with influencing and negotiating in complex situations
  • Advanced knowledge of power conversion topologies, high-frequency switching, and control systems
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and technology exploration
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Well organized and disciplined
  • Strong team player skills and mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, R&D environment
  • Familiarity with electrosurgical technologies, pulsed electric fields, or ablation systems is highly desirable

Experience/Education:
Essential:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or similar field. Ideally, a PhD or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or related field
  • Minimum 8+ years in highly technical design and development, preferably in medical or high-reliability systems
  • Show a progression of technical responsibilities and creation of IP in previous roles
