About the team:

Authenticity Guarantee is an important initiative in eBay where a select category of items are authenticated by professional authenticators to increase buyer confidence, satisfaction & trust. Authentication Technology team is responsible for building software solutions for orchestrating the process of authentication. This involves building software solutions for receiving, shipping, warehouse operations, storage, imaging, mobile applications on android platform, integration with custom hardware & RFID readers.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Lead Front-End Software Engineer to drive the architecture, quality, and delivery of modern web applications across multiple product teams. You will combine hands-on technical leadership with strategic influence — setting front-end standards, mentoring engineers, and ensuring scalable, high-performance user experiences. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in distributed teams, cares deeply about engineering excellence, and can balance speed with quality in an enterprise product environment.

Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and evolve front-end architecture across multiple product areas
  • Drive long-term technical vision for scalability, performance, and maintainability
  • Establish standards for design systems, state management, testing, and CI/CD
  • Lead architectural reviews and influence cross-org technical decisions

Execution & Delivery

  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to translate designs into high-quality
  • implementations
  • Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives from design to production
  • Decompose ambiguous product requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Ensure operational excellence (performance, accessibility, reliability, observability)
  • Improve engineering velocity through tooling, automation, and best practices

Engineering Excellence

  • Raise the quality bar through rigorous code reviews and technical mentorship
  • Champion modern web standards and best practices
  • Drive measurable improvements in page load performance, error rates, and UX quality
  • Establish metrics and SLAs for front-end performance and reliability

Leadership & Influence

  • Mentor junior engineers & help them grow in their careers
  • Influence product and design through strong technical judgment
  • Contribute to hiring and talent development
  • Lead through influence across distributed teams

Minimum Qualifications (Must Have)

  • 8+ years of experience building large-scale web applications
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience across multiple teams
  • Expert proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Deep experience with modern frameworks (React required ; Vite, Tailwind CSS preferred)
  • Experience integrating with REST and/or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience building and deploying applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Familiarity with services such as Cloud Run, Cloud SQL , Cloud Storage, Firebase, or Cloud CDN, Networking, Load balancer
  • Understanding of cloud-native architecture and security best practices
  • Proven experience designing scalable front-end architectures
  • Strong knowledge of state management, component architecture, and design systems
  • Experience building and maintaining comprehensive test suites (unit, integration, E2E) using Jest, Vitest, Cypress preferred
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of web performance optimization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing mobile applications on Android platform
  • Experience developing backend APIs using REST/GraphQL in Java/Ruby or similar object oriented languages
  • Google Cloud Developer or Architect certification
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects
  • Experience building AI/ML applications, working with LLMs and integrating ML systems
  • Interest or experience training or finetuning ML models is added advantage

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

C$142,400 - C$190,100

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including RRSP eligibility, various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
