Job Description

The Lead Field Engineer – Under Vessel (UV) will provide technical leadership and front-line supervision for the successful execution of complex projects and activities involving Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) 2-6 Control Rod Drive, Hydraulic Control Unit, and Nuclear Instrumentation maintenance/troubleshooting

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The UV Lead Engineer is responsible for the planning, scheduling, staffing and safe execution of Outage Service projects at domestic and international Customer Nuclear Utilities Plants

  • Responsible for project management, commercial execution, technical direction, work control and supervision of nuclear Under Vessel assignments

  • Lead the development, enhancement, and execution of General Electric Hitachi (GEH) training in Control Rod Drive, Nuclear Instrumentation, and Hydraulic Control Unit Maintenance at the GEH training facilities

  • Responsible for leading and coaching multi-disciplined and multi-cultural teams composed of GE and contingent worker personnel, including union and non-union craft labor

  • Establish trusting relationships and interact effectively with senior level customer and supplier management on commercial, execution, technical, and compliance issues

  • Support Product Line activities including proposal development, product development, and growth initiatives

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on the operation of Under Vessel tooling and GEH OEM equipment

  • Exemplify our GE Beliefs and demonstrate integrity, nuclear safety, and quality culture

  • Provide leadership to ensure high quality deliverables are produced in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory guidelines

  • Drive GEH standards and processes across projects to ensure procedural compliance, safety and Human Performance exceeds customer and GEH outage metrics

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years of nuclear experience or High School Diploma OR GED with a minimum of 5 years of experience in BWR maintenance activities and nuclear industry experience

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel 80% of the time to domestic and international customer sites

  • Ability and willingness to pass Fitness for Duty requirements and site security requirements to obtain and maintain unescorted access at US and International Nuclear Plant Sites

  • Ability and willingness to work in radiation-controlled areas and radioactively contaminated areas

  • Ability and willingness to work 12 hours a day, 7 days per week when delivering field projects

  • Ability to manage effectively through high stress conditions

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree of higher in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience performing Under Vessel maintenance activities including: CRD Exchange, CRD Rebuild, HCU Maintenance, and Nuclear Instrumentation Maintenance

  • Minimum 4 years experience in UV First Line Supervisor activities

  • Commercial experience/proposal development and cost Estimating

  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant refueling, maintenance, inspection and Under Vessel activities

  • Experience with Instrumentation and Control (I&C) cable circuits

  • Experience with cable testing and EMI/FRI troubleshooting of low voltage cable circuits (Time-Domain Reflectometry, current-voltage curves, and insulation resistance testing)

  • Knowledge of BWR vessels and components, Nuclear Steam Safety System (NSSS) and Containment Buildings

  • Excellent computer skills, and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software as well as enterprise systems such as P6, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and Oracle ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)

  • Open communication style and proven ability to develop team relationships, including vendors and global teams

  • Well organized and self-directed worker
