Job Description

The Lead Technician performs the duties of a Facilities Technician while supporting the Facilities Manager with the coordination, organization and administration of the Facilities Department. This position prioritizes and delegates tasks, coordinates maintenance requests and vendor service, and provides guidance and support to Facilities Technicians, while escalating larger issues and decisions to the Facilities Manager.

This position is a hands-on leadership role that supports the Facilities Manager in ensuring the efficiency, safety and good working conditions of all facilities at an Eataly location. Reports to the Area Facilities Manager.

Performs daily inspections, day-to-day preventive maintenance, and on-demand maintenance requests from Department Managers and Store Leadership

  • Troubleshoots and completes repairs to buildings and installed systems, including plumbing, electrical, kitchen equipment, refrigeration, drains, HVAC and other essential facilities and equipment
  • Assesses ongoing condition of electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and other essential facilities and equipment in order to anticipate needs and resolve problems
  • Prioritizes and triages maintenance requests based on urgency, operational impact and available resources, escalating issues to the Facilities Manager when necessary
  • Provides hands-on technical guidance and assistance to Facilities Technicians and supports the training of team members on maintenance procedures, equipment, and safe work practices
  • Communicates directly with Department Managers regarding active maintenance requests, operational impact, and required follow-up
  • Coordinates with outside vendors and contractors as directed by the Facilities Manager, including communicating maintenance issues, scheduling service, providing access and following up on completed work in an efficient, timely manner
  • Provides excellent customer service and responds quickly to emergency guest-facing situations
  • Assists with monitoring facilities inventory and ensuring necessary tools, parts, supplies and materials are available for maintenance work
  • Observes and adheres to safety and health rules by following proper LOTO, PPE, ergonomics, working at heights and machine guarding procedures
  • Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency requirements and company directives related to building operations and work safety
  • In collaboration with the Facilities team, assists with ensuring the safety of the building from fire, flood and other hazards
  • Supports the Facilities Manager in ensuring that regular preventive maintenance and facility inspections are completed as scheduled
  • Performs administrative duties in support of the Facilities Manager, including maintaining accurate and timely records of facility conditions, maintenance activities, inspections, preventive maintenance, and outstanding work
  • Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of facilities and housekeeping experience
  • Previous leadership experience is considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple trade skills, including plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, and general repair
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Experience with interpreting circuit diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals
  • High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to independently problem solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge in Microsoft Office and maintenance/work order systems is preferred)

Job Requirements

  • Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures for extended periods of time

Compensation

  • Compensation range for this role is CAD $28.00 hourly
