Job Description

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Estimator to join our Energy and Utilities Water business, supporting major programs and projects across South East Queensland.

In this senior role you will act as the estimating subject matter expert for multiple water programs, providing leadership, governance and technical excellence across bids and tenders ranging from one million to two hundred and fifty million dollars. You will work closely with Program Managers, Delivery teams and key clients to ensure estimates are accurate, compliant and aligned to Downer standards while supporting business growth and future opportunities.

This role is critical in driving consistent estimating practices, building strong internal capability and contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role you will bring strong estimating leadership experience within civil or utilities environments and the ability to influence outcomes across complex stakeholder groups.

Key requirements include

  • Demonstrated experience in senior civil estimating roles within construction or utilities

  • Five to ten years experience in construction with exposure to site based delivery roles

  • Proven ability to lead and support estimating teams across multiple programs

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing risk, pricing and tender governance

  • Ability to interpret contract documentation, drawings and technical specifications

  • Experience preparing first principles cost estimates and managing multidiscipline tenders

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering business finance commerce or a related discipline or relevant trade background with experience

  • High level written and verbal communication skills with professional presentation
