Job Description

As a Fleet Support Lead Engineer, you will perform simulation analyses to support field issues like RCAs, PAC and SAFER cases and contribute to running the best wind turbine fleet. You will team up with other functions such as systems, FPM, controls & operability and others to understand field performance and investigate turbine malfunctioning through aeroelastic simulations and fleet data analysis.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical frameworks for RCA aeroelastic loads simulation activities to ensure the right strategies are established up front and maintained from project start to end
  • Execute RCA loads simulation work identified in the technical frameworks
  • Support loads simulation related ASR and SAFER actions
  • Analyze field data to assess potential ‘load’ issues in the field
  • Develop and maintain field data analysis tools and integration into the toolchain
  • Coordinate with the System integration team on project plans and strategies
  • Prepare and lead design reviews
  • Prepare technical underwriting documents to support design reviews
  • Assess risk and develop mitigation strategies
  • Perform peer reviews
  • Develop/update load methods from field lessons-learned
  • Update loads DFMEA
  • Support lean and industrialization initiatives
  • Support Design Practice updates
  • Develop improvements to the pre and post processing loads toolchain
  • Develop standard work, training, and process documentation
  • Train new SVO engineers
  • Work with System modeling team to improve accuracy and physics of models

Qualification/Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Wind, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from accredited university (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in mechanical, wind, systems or aerospace engineering field.
  • Mandatory experience in: preparing loads for wind turbines & working with wind turbine field data (e.g., SCADA, GR, trip log)
  • Experience programming in common languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
