The Observability Integration Engineer is responsible for supporting product teams with Open Telemetry applications instrumentation and supporting the Application Observability Platform team in 24/7/365 Open Telemetry infrastructure maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities
Support development teams with OpenTelemetry instrumentation of application code, both zero-code and manual approaches.
Assist in configuring observability analytical backends, such as Datadog, Dynatrace, or Grafana.
Guide teams in the instrumentation of infrastructure for observability.
Support the integration of observability backends (DataDog, Dynatrace, Grafana, etc.) with external systems such as Jira, ServiceNow, PagerDuty, and similar platforms
Assist teams in defining Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and configuring Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
Collaborate with the Application Observability Platform team to maintain the 24/7/365 availability and reliability of the OpenTelemetry infrastructure
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong proficiency in OpenTelemetry, including hands-on experience with OTLP protocol, OpenTelemetry Semantic Conventions, OpenTelemetry Collector, and OpenTelemetry Java Agent.
Practical ability to instrument Java code using the OpenTelemetry API and OpenTelemetry Java SDK.
OpenTelemetry Java SDK. Basic understanding of AWS services and their role in modern application deployment.
At least 3 year of development experience in Java (Python experience is also acceptable).
Minimum 5-10 year of hands-on experience working with observability analytical backends such as DataDog, Dynatrace, or Grafana.
At least 5 year of experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker).
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with development teams and other stakeholders.
Basic understanding of software architecture principles, including the differences between monolithic and microservices architectures.
Collaborative team player with strong engineering skills
Meticulous and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills
Ability to negotiate, work under pressure, and manage crisis situations
Culturally sensitive with experience working in diverse environments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and organize work
Effective communicator who can articulate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
