Purpose
The Lead Engineer – Mechanical Design for the Turbine Module is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and validation of Hot Gas Path (HGP) components across GE Vernova's F/HA class heavy-duty gas turbines. This role owns the full engineering lifecycle across NPI, MYA, P2V, Repair, and Fleet & Services programs — with direct accountability for design quality, technical decisions, and program outcomes.
Working within the Turbine Module HGP team, you will apply FEA, component life assessment methods, and applicable design practices to evaluate and validate mechanical designs — driving design reviews with clear, well-supported conclusions. You will proactively identify and assess risks at both component and system level — developing and owning appropriate mitigation plans that keep programs on track and designs field-ready.

What You'll Do

Design & Technical Ownership

• Lead the mechanical design and evaluation of Turbine HGP components for assigned programs, applying sound engineering principles and adhering to GE Vernova design standards and product requirements.
• Build and interpret FEA models; independently defend conclusions at program-level design reviews with depth, rigor, and sound engineering judgment.
• Develop optimized component configurations — balancing geometry, performance, cost, material, and producibility — with full accountability for the selected technical path forward.
• Own component life assessment methodologies — LCF, Creep, Oxidation — across the full component scope, including system-level interactions, to evaluate design margins and part reliability; correlating analytical predictions with field data to inform reliability and retirement decisions.

Program Ownership & Problem Solving

• Own the full program lifecycle — drive engineering execution across complex, multi-disciplinary programs — NPI, MYA, P2V, Repair, RCA, and Fleet & Services — with complete accountability for technical quality, schedule, and outcomes.
• Be the technical decision maker — think beyond existing solutions, evaluate options with rigor, own the path forward, and resolve complex challenges independently. Escalate only when genuinely beyond defined scope — always with a recommended position.
• Lead with rigor — conduct and own design reviews with Chief Engineering Office following NPI and RCA processes; identify, assess, and mitigate risks at both component and system level before they become program issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Own cross-functional outcomes — set the agenda, drive decisions, and take accountability for integrated, system-level solutions across Heat Transfer, Aerodynamics, Manufacturing, Repair, PDE, Services, Systems, and Fleet Engineering.
• Proactively shape the design narrative — stay ahead of field issues and evolving product challenges through active Fleet and DLE engagement; bring insights to the table before they become problems.
• Drive technical consensus — align stakeholders across functions, resolve conflicting technical positions with confidence, and ensure decisions reflect the best engineering judgment across the team.

Mentorship & Organizational Leadership

• Serve as the primary technical mentor for early-career engineers and EEDPs — guiding analysis methods, design practices, review rigor, and execution quality.
• Champion change within the organization — drive continuous improvement initiatives, and develop standard work that raises the bar for the team.

Operational Excellence

• Lead process and method improvement — identify systemic inefficiencies, drive Lean initiatives, and implement improvements with measurable impact on team productivity and engineering quality.
• Own program-level documentation integrity — ensure completeness, accuracy, and traceability of technical data across all assigned programs, consistent with GE Vernova engineering policies.
• Communicate with authority, clarity, and proactiveness — on program-level risks, technical decisions, timeline pressures, and critical developments; ensure the right people have the right information at the right time.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering — Mechanical, Design, Structural, or Applied Mechanics — from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in turbomachinery component design, mechanical analysis, or a related engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in HGP or related component design — with a verifiable track record of owning and delivering complex, multi-disciplinary programs end-to-end.
• Proven problem-solving capability — demonstrated experience resolving complex technical challenges independently, owning the resolution path, and driving closure with minimal escalation.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions and drive outcomes across cross-functional teams in a matrixed, global engineering environment.
• Evidence of leading or mentoring engineers — formally or informally — with measurable impact on team delivery or capability.

What Will Make You Stand Out

Desired Characteristics

• Hands-on experience in gas turbine HGP component design and analysis, including life evaluations — LCF, Creep, Oxidation.
• Proficiency with ANSYS, NX/Unigraphics, and related engineering tools.
• Familiarity with GE Vernova gas turbine product lines — historical context, field challenges, and ongoing design improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams — with evidence of driving outcomes beyond immediate engineering scope.
• Understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Python scripting or data analysis tools for engineering workflow automation — a strong advantage.
• Openness to emerging engineering technologies — simulation-driven design, digital tools, and data platforms — and the drive to apply them for breakthrough impact.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent complex programs, adapting to shifting priorities with clarity and composure.
• Master's degree in Engineering is a plus.
