Job Description

What you’ll do

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical design, development, validation, and productization of next-generation critical power and energy storage products for data centers and other mission-critical applications.

The role will provide mechanical technical leadership and design ownership from concept through production launch, ensuring products meet requirements for safety, quality, reliability, performance, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and schedule.

The individual will collaborate with global cross-functional teams across systems, electrical, power electronics, thermal, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, reliability, service, and certification to deliver robust and scalable product solutions.

  • Lead the mechanical architecture, design, development, validation, and launch of critical power and data-center infrastructure products.
  • Translate system and customer requirements into mechanical requirements, architecture, specifications, and detailed designs.
  • Drive product packaging and system layout while balancing thermal performance, structural integrity, electrical clearances, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost.
  • Lead mechanical development of sheet-metal enclosures, structural frames, busbar integration, battery packaging, cooling systems, wiring/harness routing, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Perform and guide 3D CAD design, engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, structural and thermal analysis, prototyping, and product testing.
  • Serve as the mechanical technical lead/design authority, leading design reviews and driving technical trade-off decisions across mechanical, electrical, thermal, manufacturing, and reliability domains.
  • Apply DFMEA and DFx methodologies, including design for manufacturing, assembly, serviceability, reliability, cost, and testability.
  • Lead mechanical design activities through prototype/EVT, DVT, certification, production readiness, and product launch.
  • Support verification and validation, reliability testing, failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with suppliers, manufacturing, sourcing, and quality teams on design feasibility, tooling, prototype development, cost optimization, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Support product compliance and certification activities, including applicable IEC/UL and global safety requirements.
  • Drive design-to-cost, modularization, standardization, platform reuse, and value-engineering initiatives.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to mechanical engineers and designers and strengthen engineering best practices and design standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, simulation methods, design reviews, documentation, and test methodologies."

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.

Advanced technical training/certification in areas such as thermal engineering, structural analysis, Six Sigma, DFx, or product development is an advantage.

Relevant experience:

M.Tech./M.E. with 8+ years of experience, or

B.Tech./B.E. with 10+ years of experience."

Skills

The candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge and practical experience in:

  • Mechanical product architecture and electromechanical packaging
  • 3D CAD modelling and development of 2D production drawings and assembly documentation
  • Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerancing, tolerance analysis, tolerance stack-up, and design documentation
  • Sheet-metal design, structural frames, enclosures, brackets, and mechanical assemblies
  • Busbar mechanical integration, cable/wiring routing, insulation interfaces, and electrical clearances
  • Thermal management, including airflow, heat transfer, forced-air cooling, component cooling, and thermal interface design
  • Structural and mechanical analysis, including stress, vibration, shock, loading, and structural integrity
  • Engineering simulation and correlation of analysis with physical test results
