The team you will be a part of

The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Lead Engineer. The role will be based at our Perrysburg, OH plant. As a lead engineer for injection molding, you will be responsible for supporting the operation of a world class plastic injection molding facility, striving to be the benchmark for Whirlpool in automation. In this challenging role, you will be called upon as a technical leader to drive continuous improvements to safety, quality, delivery, and cost of the process.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Lead capital projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Lead process implementation, process optimization, root cause analysis, and capacity increases with a focus on injection molding equipment and molds
  • Facilitate projects and teach / mentor/train shop floor teams to ensure molds and machines are kept in World Class condition
  • Provide project management of new and existing equipment / tooling.
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to drive solutions.
  • Develop technicians in advanced problem-solving and skill training
  • Support a highly automated facility
  • Work effectively with your peers to share knowledge and leverage strengths
  • Utilize excellent communication and documentation skills to transfer critical processes and support knowledge to others
  • Lead and promote the use of kaizen activities
  • Work with Corporate design team for Engineering Changes
  • Work with the procurement team on cost and quality projects

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years manufacturing experience

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanica,l Chemical, or Plastics Engineering
  • Experience with qualifying new injection mold tooling.
  • Experience with Fanuc 6 axis robots.
  • Experience with Gantry style cartesian demolding robots
  • Experience setting up new processes and optimizing existing processes.
  • Advanced Injection Mold Process Training (Master Molder, Paulson, AIM, etc…)
  • Experience leading teams
  • Experience in World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Professional Maintenance (PM)
  • Drive initiatives to support change in the plant
  • Experience using CAD software such as Creo, Solidworks, AutoCAD
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
