Job Description

The Lead Engineer is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the hospital utility systems and their supporting equipment, preventive maintenance, work order and in-house project completion such as small repairs/remodels, patching and painting, and minor carpentry, tile, and drywall repairs. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

• Achieves competent repairs and maintenance by performing preventive maintenance as well as corrective maintenance of the hospital physical plant, utility systems and all supporting equipment.
• Provides information and documents of work performed and completes written preventive maintenance forms and documents of work performed and completing written work requests in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge in the maintenance and repair of the facilities HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) and utilizes his ability and training to complete work order requests in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge in the maintenance and repair of the facilities plumbing and utilizes his plumbing ability and training to complete work order requests in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and utilizes his electrical ability and training to complete work order requests in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge in the maintenance and repair of the facilities mechanical equipment by utilizing mechanical ability and training to complete work order requests in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge of building skills such as painting, minor carpentry, tile repair and drywall.
• Assist the Director of facilities to maintain TJC (The Joint Commission) compliance in the areas of EOC (Environment of Care) standards – Utilities Management, Medical Equipment Management and Interim Life Safety, and other regulatory components including Titles 22 and 24, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association).
• Reviews, revises, generates, and ensures departmental compliance with policies and procedures.
• Responsible for department functions including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, projects,
• Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
• Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
• Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
• Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.
• Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
• Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
• Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
• Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
• May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Hospital Engineering Maintenance.
• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
• A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within healthcare.
