Job Description

The Lead Customer Application Engineer is part of the Global Center of Excellence (COE) for Technical Tendering and functionally reports to the Regional Technical Tendering Leader. In this role, you will lead Inquiry to Order (ITO) technical tendering activities related to generator mechanical systems for large new-build, service, and refurbishment opportunities within the hydro business.
You will be responsible for developing optimized, compliant, and competitive technical solutions that meet customer requirements, align with internal design standards, and support overall business objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical tendering activities for generator and motor mechanical scope across new-build, service, and refurbishment projects.
  • Review customer specifications and identify technical requirements to ensure full understanding of tender scope and obligations.
  • Coordinate and communicate technical requirements to the broader bid team, including engineering, sourcing, costing, planning, site construction, commercial operations, and service.
  • Define the optimal technical solution in line with customer needs, business objectives, and GE Vernova design guidelines.
  • Establish technical characteristics, performance data, and applicable technical guarantees for proposed equipment and solutions.
  • Prepare technical design notes, internal strategy documents, and customer-facing technical documentation for inclusion in tender submissions.
  • Support equipment and layout optimization to improve technical execution and proposal competitiveness.
  • Perform technical and cost optimization studies to enhance the overall competitiveness of bids.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, regional, and international technical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Identify technical risks during the tendering phase and develop appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Conduct site visits, as required, to gather technical inputs necessary for bid preparation and risk assessment.
  • Provide technical support to Commercial Operations and Sales during customer meetings, clarifications, and technical discussions.
  • Support pre-ITO activities by reviewing early customer requirements, assessing technical feasibility, and identifying key scope considerations for upcoming opportunities
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of tendering tools, methodologies, and technical know-how across the organization.
  • Support post-bid technical activities through contract award, including customer clarifications, technical negotiations, and alignment of the final technical offer.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the hydro industry, with strong exposure to generator or motor mechanical systems.
  • Experience in technical tendering, application engineering, design, or proposal development for new-build, service, or refurbishment projects.
  • Strong knowledge of hydro industry standards, applicable codes, and mechanical design practices.
  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD, NX, and Pro/ENGINEER.
