Lead Engineer C++/C#:

Are you ready to lead the engineering charge on a cutting-edge video streaming platform — and shape the future of how the world's most trusted news organisation delivers media at scale? At Thomson Reuters, we clarify the complex — and we need a technical leader who can do the same for our codebase.

We're looking for a Full-Stack C++ / C# Lead Engineer to join our video streaming team,on a hybrid basis, ideally based betweenUKand India time zones. In this role, you'll serve as the technical lead for a team of junior and senior developers, driving quality, architecture, and delivery on a modern, evolving stack — currently around 80% C++, transitioning toward C#, with a Node.js/TypeScript component and legacy PHP being phased out.

This is ahybridpositionworkingbetweenUKand India time zones, with some flexibility.

About the Role

As Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Owning and driving technical leadership across a team of junior and senior developers

  • Conducting thorough code reviews and maintaining high standards of code quality across the codebase

  • Troubleshooting and identifying root causes of complex, cross-system issues

  • Working fluidly across multiple areas of the codebase, managing frequent context switching with confidence

  • Contributing to and leading architectural discussions that shape the platform's direction

  • Working hands-on across our core stack: C++, C# (.NET Framework, Windows Forms, Interop), Node.js / TypeScript, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions

  • Collaborating with front-end components using JavaScript / TypeScript

About You

You're a fit for the role of Lead Full-Stack Engineer if your background includes:

  • Strong hands-on experience in C++ and/or C#, with the ability to work confidently across both

  • A track record of technical leadership — you've guided and mentored teams of developers and taken ownership of engineering outcomes

  • Solid experience with code reviews and a genuine commitment to code quality and best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex, cross-system problems

  • Experience contributing to or leading architectural discussions and design decisions

  • Familiarity with front-end technologies, particularly JavaScript / TypeScript

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), software architecture, data structures, and critical thinking

  • Excellent communication skills — you can bridge the gap between technical complexity and team clarity.

  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to lead without losing sight of the people around you.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with media encoding or streaming tools (e.g. FFmpeg, ImageMagick)

  • Experience with distributed systems

  • Experience with Hono (Node.js framework)

  • Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly AWS
