Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and Optimize Hard facing Consumables
    • Collaborate to design formulation of hard facing wires, fluxes, and overlay solutions tailored to industry‑specific wear and impact conditions.
    • Conduct lab‑scale and shop‑floor trials to establish welding parameters, validate deposition behavior, and verify performance targets (hardness, dilution, wear resistance, crack resistance, and operational reliability).
    • Perform metallurgical testing including microstructure evaluation, hardness mapping, dilution measurement, and wear testing.
    • Document all development outcomes for internal reviews, qualification requirements, and customer approvals.
  • Competitive Landscape & Benchmarking
    • Analyze competitor consumables and overlay technologies through testing and performance benchmarking.
    • Identify portfolio gaps and collaborate with global R&D teams to define and execute product improvement or new product development initiatives.
    • Maintain a structured understanding of industry trends, material innovations, and emerging application requirements.
  • Application Engineering & Field‑Driven Improvements
    • Work with customers, application engineers, and commercial teams to diagnose failure modes in steel caster rolls, wear plates, and other heavy‑industry components.
    • Translate application problems into hard facing consumable and process recommendations that improve service life, reduce cost, and enhance operational stability.
    • Support field tests, analyze performance data, and refine solutions using Lincoln Electric’s latest global innovations.
  • Manufacturing Scale‑Up & Production Readiness
    • Support the transition of new consumables from R&D into full‑scale manufacturing.

Job Requirements

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field.
    • Hands‑on experience with major welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, SAW, SMAW) and hard facing applications.
    • Strong background in alloy design, heat treatment, microstructural analysis, and wear mechanisms.
    • Proficiency in metallurgical characterization tools and techniques.
    • Ability to design experiments, interpret data, and document technical findings clearly.
    • Strong teamwork, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in welding consumable development or welding application engineering.
    • Exposure to steel mill, mining, or heavy‑fabrication wear applications.
    • Experience supporting scale‑up or production troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
    • Understanding of global product qualification and customer approval processes.
  • Performance Metrics
    • Speed and effectiveness of new consumable development cycles.
    • Product performance vs. internal and competitive benchmarks.
    • Successful implementation of hard facing solutions in the field.
    • Quality and completeness of documentation for manufacturing scale‑up.
    • Collaboration effectiveness with global R&D and local manufacturing teams.
