Job Description

Purpose of role

Dyson solves the problems others choose to ignore, developing disruptive technologies requiring even more complex electronics to deliver an increasing product portfolio. We are driven by problem-solving, cutting-edge engineering, and a commitment to delivering high-performance products that redefine user experiences.

As a Lead Electronics Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and integration of embedded systems and advanced sensing technologies that power Dyson’s next-generation products.

You will lead the development of robust firmware and sensor solutions, working cross-functionally with electronics, mechanical, algorithm, and product teams. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibility, ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable, and innovative solutions.

The role will require a highly motivated, creative, methodical, and flexible person, ready to take on challenges with a pragmatic approach. You will lead a team of Electronics Engineers in development projects and provide supervision and mentoring to juniors, graduates and new team members.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the design and development of embedded firmware for real-time systems in consumer products
  • Define system architectures for sensor integration, signal processing, and control systems
  • Drive design reviews, technical strategy, and best practices across embedded platforms
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture
  • Develop low-level drivers, middleware, and application-layer firmware
  • Work with RTOS or bare-metal systems for high-performance, reliable operation
  • Optimize system performance including power consumption, latency, and memory use
  • Ensure firmware robustness through testing, debugging, and validation
  • Design and integrate sensor solutions (e.g., environmental, optical, acoustic, inertial, or pressure sensors)
  • Develop calibration, filtering, and sensor fusion algorithms
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to select and validate sensor components
  • Analyze sensor data to improve product performance and user experience
  • Work closely with data scientists and algorithm engineers on sensing strategies

Qualifications Skills

As a Lead Electronics Engineer, you will be an experienced design engineer and capable of working unsupervised to deliver high quality design solutions. Preferably you will have experience of the whole product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to mass production and product sustainability.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded systems development
  • Experience leading engineering teams or technical projects
  • Good understanding schematics, datasheets, and hardware interfaces
  • Able to validate pin mappings, power-up sequences, clocks, communication lines
  • Experience in sensor integration and data processing
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M, etc.) and embedded platforms
  • Experience with RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS) or real-time systems
  • Experience with communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, BLE
  • Knowledge of signal processing, filtering, and sensor fusion techniques
  • Debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab tools
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to drive decisions in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Passion for innovation and product excellence

About Dyson

Dyson solves real-world problems and creates better products through the application of engineering, science, design and creativity. It is a family-owned, global technology company, founded by Sir James Dyson who remains at the helm alongside his son Jake.

Since inventing the first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner, the DC01, Dyson has consistently invested in research and development to improve its products and technologies radically. Dyson offers products across a growing range of areas: floorcare, air purification, robotics, haircare including formulations, lighting, hand drying, and most recently audio. Dyson continues to expand into new areas.

Today, Dyson sells products in more than 80 markets, has 450 Dyson stores worldwide and is available in all major technology and beauty retailers. Dyson has global headquarters in Singapore and major technology campuses in Singapore, the UK, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Its global team of engineers, scientists and software developers are focused on developing technology-enabled products which work better and which people love to use. Key areas of focus have included high-speed electric digital motors, sensing and vision systems, robotics, machine learning and aerodynamics.

Beyond products, to encourage an inventive future, Dyson is also inspiring the next generation of engineers and inventors through the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, the James Dyson Foundation and the James Dyson Award.

The Dyson family applies its problem-solving approach in other fields, and established Dyson Farming in 2012. It is one of the largest farming businesses in the UK, extending to 36,000 acres across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. It is a family-owned enterprise unlike any other, focussed on long-term investment in British farming and the countryside to grow tasty and nutritious food.
