Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Electronics Engineer to join our Robotics R&D team, focusing on next-generation robotic vacuum products. This role is responsible for end-to-end electronics design, from concept development through mass production, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance with global standards.

Key Responsibilities

Electronics Design & Development

  • Lead the design and development of electronic hardware solutions for robotic vacuum and home appliance products, covering analog, digital, power, and embedded systems.
  • Architect and implement robust hardware platforms, including motor control, sensing interfaces (e.g., magnetic, optical), and high-speed SoC-based systems.
  • Develop schematics, guide PCB layout, and ensure design integrity through simulation, tolerance analysis, and reviews.
  • Prototype, integrate, and validate hardware designs, including embedded firmware interfaces where required.

Product Engineering & Delivery

  • Ensure designs meet product requirements for performance, reliability, manufacturability (DFM), cost, serviceability, and regulatory compliance (e.g., IEC, UL, EMC).
  • Drive design verification (DVT), product validation (PVT), and reliability testing, including defining test methodologies.
  • Own and manage technical risks throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to production, and lead root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering documentation (schematics, layouts, FMEA, failure analysis, design reports, and technical reviews).

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with mechanical, motor, firmware, test, and compliance teams to ensure system-level integration and performance.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers to optimize designs for high-volume production and quality (DFX).
  • Support quality and reliability teams in field return analysis and continuous improvement.

Supplier & Production Engagement

  • Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure components and processes meet quality and cost targets.
  • Participate in supplier auditing, qualification, and performance management.
  • Drive production readiness and ensure smooth transition from development to mass production.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and design guidance to junior engineers.
  • Contribute to and drive improvements in electronics development processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Support project planning and ensure timely delivery of milestones.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Min. 5+ years of experience in electronics hardware design and development (robotics, consumer electronics, or home appliances preferred).
  • Proven experience across the full product development lifecycle, from concept to mass production.

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in:
    • Power electronics and motor control systems
    • Analog and digital circuit design
    • Sensor integration (magnetic, optical, or similar)
  • Experience with SoC-based high-speed platforms (e.g., ARM multi-core systems, DDR4/DDR5, MIPI interfaces).
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools for circuit analysis and tolerance validation.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • EMC design and troubleshooting
    • Design for Excellence (DFX), DFMEA, and Design QA processes
    • Regulatory and safety standards (IEC, UL, EMC)

Additional Advantage

  • Experience in home appliance safety standards
  • Knowledge of wiring/harness design
  • Exposure to robotics systems or autonomous platforms

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Highly motivated, results-driven, and able to thrive under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • High level of integrity, ownership, and accountability.

About Dyson

Dyson solves real-world problems and creates better products through the application of engineering, science, design and creativity. It is a family-owned, global technology company, founded by Sir James Dyson who remains at the helm alongside his son Jake.

Since inventing the first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner, the DC01, Dyson has consistently invested in research and development to improve its products and technologies radically. Dyson offers products across a growing range of areas: floorcare, air purification, robotics, haircare including formulations, lighting, hand drying, and most recently audio. Dyson continues to expand into new areas.

Today, Dyson sells products in more than 80 markets, has 450 Dyson stores worldwide and is available in all major technology and beauty retailers. Dyson has global headquarters in Singapore and major technology campuses in Singapore, the UK, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Its global team of engineers, scientists and software developers are focused on developing technology-enabled products which work better and which people love to use. Key areas of focus have included high-speed electric digital motors, sensing and vision systems, robotics, machine learning and aerodynamics.

Beyond products, to encourage an inventive future, Dyson is also inspiring the next generation of engineers and inventors through the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, the James Dyson Foundation and the James Dyson Award.

The Dyson family applies its problem-solving approach in other fields, and established Dyson Farming in 2012. It is one of the largest farming businesses in the UK, extending to 36,000 acres across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. It is a family-owned enterprise unlike any other, focussed on long-term investment in British farming and the countryside to grow tasty and nutritious food.
