Job Description

The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for defining the specification, design, development, and testing for energy storage. This position requires an overall system perspective and detailed design experience with cross-functional input. This position reports currently to the Vice President, Product Development Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of systems for the next generation of Energy Storage System (ESS) products.
  • Serve as a technical lead for electrical subsystems on complex development projects with input into subsystem designs down to the board level.
  • Collaborate with other team members to refine the technology roadmap for current and future products.
  • Translate product requirements into functional systems and components.
  • Develop detailed product and subsystem specifications based on product requirements for system level design, operation, and controls.
  • Assist with leading regulatory compliance testing and validation.
  • Assist with the development of proper system documentation including system theory of operation and validation test documentation.
  • Create test engineering and validation plans to ensure proper implementation.
  • Drive system integration and validation test activities for engineering development, establishing test methods and verification tools.
  • Support prototype system builds to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Develops organizational due diligence to ensure proper design best practices.
  • Lead root cause and failure analysis for overall system performance.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.


Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Masters degree in electrical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years experience in electrical system design or minimum of ten (10) years technical experience with demonstrated experience developing a product from concept through production on a multidiscipline project with complex systems.
  • Intimate knowledge and experience with the product design process, validation testing, and documentation.
  • Expertise in electrical design best practices, including circuit design, component selection, circuit protections, and PCB layout.
  • Ability to read schematics and use electrical hardware design tools for analysis, simulation, engineering calculations, etc.
  • Comfortable in a small organization with limited resources.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.
  • Demonstrated competence in methodical and effective troubleshooting.
  • Experience with industry test certifications and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Energy storage experience is preferred.
  • Design experience above 1500VDC/480VAC is preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English; spoken, written & presentation.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 20%.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and uneven terrain.
  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environments, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud.
  • Must be able to manipulate equipment for calibration and modification.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
