Job Description

Purpose of Position

Working alongside the transport management team, support delivery of key business objectives relating to Health & Safety, Service Excellence and Efficiency; specifically, through delivery of effective training to all drivers employed including agency drivers and subcontract drivers.

Drive culture and standards to improve safety, compliance, misload reduction, accidents, and incidents, on the road performance in MPG and Eco Driving specifically related to transport and related activities.

Responsibilities/ Accountabilities

In addition to the responsibilities and accountabilities for driver position:

  • Drive culture and standards through a principle of Safety First whilst maintaining highest standards of own safety and compliance.
  • Create a high-performance culture with the driving teams where team members are motivated and engaged, with key deliverables and development goals to grow their capability and competency.
  • Develop a highly engaged workforce through effective leadership of teams and in individuals.
  • Support the Depot Transport Manager(s) and Group Transport Manager with delivery of the groups Driver Improvement Programmes.
  • Be an advocate for the use of the company’s chosen Telematics system and digital platforms for safety, performance, and compliance.
  • Managing driving assessments for Class 1 & 2 HGV drivers and, potentially in the future, company car drivers. Complete driving assessment reports for management teams to support decision making.
  • Undertake Induction training for new starters and agency workers.
  • Complete any company training relevant to driving roles such as pressure discharges, misloads, and tachograph compliance as examples.
  • Any familiarisation training on new vehicles.
  • Carry out post incident and absence driving assessments as required to support and manage drivers back into the workplace.
  • Conduct and be accountable for coaching needs highlighted via video or reports from Brenntag’s chosen Telematics system to facilitate driver improvement in safety, MPG, Eco driving or any other measurable element of the system.
  • Conduct assessments and training at other sites within the Brenntag group, where necessary.
  • Training of Standard Operating Procedures related to the transport function.

Qualifications Required

  • Both Class 1 & 2 HGV license would be preferable with a good level of experience in both.
  • ADR licence.
  • Advance driving qualifications.
  • Completion of train the trainer courses previously (desirable)

Experience

  • Previous training experience is advantageous.
  • Good communication skills, reading and writing etc with an ability to explain concepts to others.
  • Willing to drive standards and pick colleagues up on poor behaviours around safety, driving and compliance habits.
  • Demonstrable ability to be a super user of all related digital tools & platforms i.e. telematics, last mile management system

Personal Skills & Attributes

  • A basic working knowledge of IT, Word, and email
  • Be able to work alone and unsupervised would be an advantage.
  • Be flexible, be prepared to travel, willing to manage colleagues ready to take steps towards a managerial role.

  • Comply and promote with all statutory and company safety policies and instigate work practices, which results in a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Desire to strive for a Best Practice culture of continuous improvement in all allocated team members.
  • Demonstrable good accident and safety record.

Compliance

  • A very good understanding of current driver’s hours regulations demonstrated through low infringement levels during employment with Brenntag.
  • Demonstrable performance with respect to compliance with all company policies and procedures.
