Job Description

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer within our DevOps - Engineering Acceleration organization. This team is responsible for modernizing foundational engineering capabilities and improving the way our platforms are built, delivered, and maintained across Consumer Technology.

In this role, you will help lead the transformation of our consumption and implementation of our platforms by maturing automation, standardizing image and configuration patterns, and improving the reliability and repeatability of how infrastructure is provisioned. You will collaborate with developer platforms, production support, enterprise infrastructure, and application teams to build scalable solutions that elevate developer productivity and operational efficiency.

This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone who is passionate about automation, standardization, platform engineering, and modern DevOps practices.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead efforts to modernize infrastructure delivery using best‑in‑class automation and configuration patterns
  • Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure build and provisioning pipelines that enable repeatable and scalable compute environments.
  • Develop and maintain a library of reusable configuration modules and automation patterns to support consistent image and system builds across environments.
  • Contribute to the creation and evolution of enterprise image standards, including versioning, governance, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Strengthen infrastructure lifecycle and compliance processes, including vulnerability remediation and secure baseline management.
  • Collaborate across teams -- Production Support, Enterprise Infrastructure, Developer Platforms, and application teams—to deliver integrated, enterprise‑ready engineering solutions.
  • Build and consume RESTful APIs that support infrastructure and configuration automation.
  • Contribute to internal tooling and developer utilities, including CLIs and shared components developed through innersource.
  • Support the design of self‑service provisioning workflows that simplify and accelerate infrastructure consumption by application teams.
  • Apply modern engineering practices to drive immutable infrastructure patterns and alignment with container‑oriented workflows where appropriate.
  • Mentor engineers, review code and automation patterns, and foster a culture of quality, reusability, and engineering excellence.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related disciplines
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience with Linux systems engineering and infrastructure automation
  • 3+ years of experience using programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go)
  • 2+ years of experience designing, developing, or consuming RESTful APIs for infrastructure or platform workflows
  • 3+ years of experience working with Git-based workflows and modern source control practices
  • 2+ years of experience developing configuration automation (e.g., role/blueprint‑style frameworks, configuration modules, or similar concepts)
  • 2+ years of experience automating image, system, or configuration build processes (e.g. GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible)
  • 2+ years of experience applying security, compliance, or vulnerability‑management practices within infrastructure engineering
  • 2+ years leading or influencing technical engineering initiatives in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with image lifecycle management or automated image creation pipelines (e.g. Packer, Chainguard)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code platforms or Kubernetes‑style resource APIs (e.g., Terraform, Crossplane, or similar tools)
  • Experience building internal tools or CLIs in Go
  • Exposure to container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Experience with observability tooling (metrics, logs, tracing)
  • Experience contributing to innersource codebases or shared engineering libraries
  • Exposure to hybrid or private cloud environments and concepts commonly used in public cloud architectures (eg. AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
