Job Description

The GE Gas Power Component Development Testing (CDT) team is responsible for designing and developing advanced test rigs to validate new technologies for GE Gas Power, GE Vernova businesses, and external customers. The team develops full-scale and scaled-down test rigs, including rotating rigs, stationary rigs, high-temperature rigs, and high-pressure rigs, all equipped with sophisticated instrumentation to support accurate and reliable testing.

In this role, the candidate will work closely with PLs, TLs, stakeholders, and design engineers to support the design, development, manufacturing, and commissioning of a wide range of test rigs. The position also involves contributing to the development of strategies for future testing opportunities.

The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders through all phases of the project lifecycle, including evaluation, planning, and execution, to ensure effective and smooth project delivery. The role will also involve identifying technical and commercial risks during the proposal stage for new RFQs, ensuring that potential challenges are recognized and addressed early in the process.

Additionally, the candidate will be expected to solve complex numerical problems, develop engineering tools from first principles, identify lean opportunities, and take ownership of technical challenges as needed. The role includes mentoring young engineers and lab technicians while fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support test Rigs related designs and system-level activities across high-speed rotating rigs, static rigs, high-temperature/high-pressure rigs, acoustic and combustion rigs, and instrumentation systems.
  • Collaborate on customer-sponsored test programs, including rig design, manufacturing, build, and teardown operations.
  • Participate in design reviews, drive closure of action items, and support first-time yield through effective cross-functional coordination.
  • Work with TLs, Test engineers, technicians, and external stakeholders to improve designs and incorporate DFM/DFA principles.
  • Partner with Product Definition Engineers to develop and own rig hardware, system, and instrumentation drawings.
  • Provide technical oversight and review of test hardware, instrumentation, and rig capability against test requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis, troubleshoot discrepancies, and implement quick fixes to keep testing on track.
  • Contribute to numerical analysis methodologies, flow visualization testing, mentoring of junior engineers, and identification of new areas for innovation and growth.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering or related discipline from reputed university.
  • 6+ years' experience in thermo-structural design and analysis of turbo machinery components (steam/ gas/ wind). Strong understanding of gas turbine thermodynamic cycles, aerodynamic design principles, combustion systems, mechanical design & testing methodologies.
  • Working experience with design and analysis tools including ANSYS Workbench/ ANSYS Classic and any other equivalent tools.
  • Good understanding of material behaviors, especially at high pressure and high temperature
  • Flow visualization testing & post processing expertise
  • Should have strong mentoring skills to train the Engineers.
  • Hands on experience with NPI processes.
  • Working experience cross functional team interactions, businesses and external customers.
  • Should have innovative mindset

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in steam turbine technology, gas turbine technology, mechanical testing, performance testing, high-temperature and high-pressure testing, and/or other laboratory or field testing.
  • Familiarity with rotor dynamics, combustion dynamics, heat transfer, and related engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of SAFER, HAZOP, design reviews, red flag reviews, test record files, and data system equipment.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor Test/Facility Engineers and Test Specialists.
  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma tools and processes.
  • Working knowledge of ASME and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Note:

  • To comply with US immigration and other legal requirements, it is necessary to specify the minimum number of years' experience required for any role based within the USA.
