About the Role

Own the Craft. Set the Standard.

We're hiring a Lead Decorator for our upcoming Paradise Valley location, opening Fall 2026. You'll join the team ahead of opening to train, ramp up, and build the systems that define the quality and presentation of every product that goes out our door.

All baked goods are produced at our Phoenix production warehouse and delivered to Paradise Valley — your job is to ensure everything that reaches our guests is finished, presented, and quality-checked to the highest standard. You'll lead the decoration team, own the finished product, and serve as the bridge between our production warehouse and the guest-facing experience.

Responsibilities

Pre-Opening

  • Complete onboarding, training, and ramp-up prior to location opening
  • Learn Too Sweet Cakes' decoration standards, product specifications, and brand presentation guidelines
  • Collaborate with the General Manager and Phoenix production team to establish decoration workflows and quality benchmarks
  • Help prepare the location for grand opening — visual standards, product readiness, and team training

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and direct the decoration team daily — assign tasks, manage workflow, and keep the shift running smoothly
  • Train new decorators on company standards, techniques, and quality expectations
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback to elevate the team's skill and consistency
  • Communicate team performance observations and development needs to the General Manager

Decoration & Craftsmanship

  • Decorate baked goods and cakes to Too Sweet Cakes' brand and quality standards
  • Maintain consistency in technique, presentation, and product appearance across every item
  • Adapt to daily product mix, volume, and custom or seasonal specifications

Quality Control

  • Inspect all finished products before they reach the FOH floor — nothing goes out that doesn't meet the standard
  • Identify and address quality issues immediately across decoration, product condition, and presentation
  • Communicate quality patterns or recurring concerns to the General Manager and Phoenix production team
  • Uphold all food safety and sanitation standards throughout the decoration area

Production Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Paradise Valley and the Phoenix production warehouse on product flow and delivery timing
  • Review incoming deliveries against order specs and flag any discrepancies
  • Communicate daily and weekly product needs to ensure the team has what it needs without gaps

Operations & Standards

  • Own the 5:00 AM opening of the decoration area — set the station, set the tone
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace throughout every shift
  • Ensure stations are properly stocked for the day's volume
  • Support a thorough handoff at shift end — communicate status and outstanding items to the next team

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional decorating experience — cakes, pastries, or baked goods in a production or bakery environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and hold others to a high standard
  • Sharp eye for detail and genuine pride in the quality of finished products
  • Experience with quality control in a food production or bakery setting preferred
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, volume-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills — clear direction, prompt escalation, cross-team collaboration
  • Early morning availability is a must; this role starts at 5:00 AM
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (eligible employees)
  • Employee product discounts
  • Paid pre-opening training and ramp-up
  • Opportunity to step into a key leadership role at a growing company
Too Sweet Cakes

About Too Sweet Cakes

Every great story starts with a dream—and ours began with a simple one: to create pastries that not only tasted incredible but made people feel cared for.

Too Sweet Cakes was founded in 2016 by Shelbi Geyer, whose love for baking started as a young girl, sketching cake designs and dreaming of one day opening her own bakery. That dream stayed with her, fueled by a passion for creativity, connection, and a belief that food could be something truly meaningful.

What started as a small wholesale bakery quickly grew into something more. In 2018, we opened our first storefront in Bend, Oregon, creating a space where pastries weren’t just desserts—they were memories in the making. From there Too Sweet Cakes expanded to Lake Oswego, and today, we proudly operate four retail locations across Oregon and Arizona, with a fifth location opening in 2026 in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

Beyond our storefronts, you’ll find Too Sweet Cakes pastries featured in over 100 locations across Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. It’s been an incredible journey—one made possible by the extraordinary team who has brought their talents, heart, and dedication into every part of the business.

Our team of bakers, decorators, and visionaries are the heartbeat of Too Sweet Cakes. Together, we share a mission that’s never changed: to love people well through pastries.

As we continue to grow, we remain rooted in the values that sparked it all—creativity, community, and a deep love for making people feel special. We are so grateful to every customer, partner, and community who has supported our journey—and we can’t wait to celebrate even more sweet moments with you, one bite at a time.
