Job Description


• Experienced in managing and optimizing DB2 LUW databases on Linux and AWS Cloud
environments
• Strong expertise in utilities and command-line tools for administration, performance
tuning, monitoring, backup/restore, and problem determination.
• Monitoring database health using db2pd, db2top, db2mtrk and optimizing database
performance, slow queries, indexing, replication, and storage utilization.
• Experience in troubleshooting complex performance issues, optimizing SQL
workloads, and automating day-to-day DBA operations using scripting language
• Great understanding on of locking, isolation levels, concurrency, and row/page
architecture
• Configuring and maintaining DB2 registry variables, DBM CFG and DB CFG parameter
and Managing instance, cataloging, and client configurations
• Experience in implementing and managing online/offline backup strategies using
db2backup and Performing restore, rollforward recovery, and PITR.
• Data movement by using db2load, db2move, export/import, db2look for migration
activities
• Problem determination and troubleshooting by analysing DB2 diagnostic logs
(db2diag.log) and issue resolution by using db2support, db2dart, db2fodc.
• Adept at supporting high-availability production systems, performing DR drills, and
collaborating with development and cloud teams to deliver stable and efficient DB2
environments.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) for database
resources.
• Build automated health checks, failover tests, and data validation tools.
• Implement encryption at rest and in transit using KMS and database-native
encryption.
• Manage IAM roles, database authentication, parameter groups, and secrets using
AWS Secrets Manager or Parameter Store.
• Enforce least privilege, auditing, logging, and compliance controls such as CIS, PCI,
HIPAA, or SOC2.
• Set up database monitoring using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, Enhanced
Monitoring, or third-party tools.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, connection issues, replication delays, and
scaling challenges.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
• Work with application teams to design optimal schemas and query patterns.
• Collaborate with DevOps for CI/CD integration and automated database
deployments.

DATABASE-SPECIFIC DUTIES


• Implement and manage database services in the AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and policies for all databases.
• Monitor system performance and identify downtimes along with underlying causes.
• Managed migrations of DB from Onprem to RDS services.
• Manage backup and restores of DB’s on requirement basis.

• Require 7-12 years of technology experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience as DB2 DBA on Linux.
• Strong experience administering DB2 LUW environments.
• Experience deploying and administering DB2 on AWS Cloud (EC2, S3, EBS, …)
• Strong understanding on backup & recovery strategies, HADR
& TSA, SQL performance tuning, locking & concurrency, workload
management (WLM)
• Expertise with monitoring tools: db2top, Data Studio, DSM.
• Hands-on scripting using Shell, Python, or Perl.
• Deep understanding of Linux OS performance (CPU, memory, I/O).
