Let’s Talk about the Role

As Lead Controls Engineer, you design low-voltage control schemes for power transformers, helping deliver reliable, high-quality solutions from engineering design through to manufacture and testing.

You create control schematics, specifications, and related documentation, support component selection and supplier review, and work closely with transformer components, control interfaces, and SCADA or central control systems. You also contribute to HMI development, support factory acceptance testing, and coordinate with colleagues and customers to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to budget.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Preparingcontrol schematics, specifications, general arrangement drawings, and cable schedules for control cabinets for power transformers
  • Interfacingwith relays, tap-changers, and other transformer components, as well as SCADA or central control systems
  • DevelopingHMI solutions and supporting programming activity where required
  • Selectingand specifying components for ordering and manufacturing
  • Reviewingsupplier drawings and supporting factory acceptance tests
  • Collaboratingwith internal and external stakeholders across projects, tendering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and other functions
  • Maintainingstrong performance against key delivery measures such as on-time delivery, right first time, and budget adherence
  • Supportingcontinuous improvement through safe, high-quality, and efficient engineering practice

Skills for Success

You are a hands-on, collaborative controls engineer who enjoys turning complex transformer requirements into practical, reliable engineering solutions.

  • The ability to design low-voltage control schemes for power transformers
  • The capability to prepare control schematics, specifications, and related engineering documentation independently
  • An understanding of low-voltage switchgear schematics and related automation
  • An understanding of transformer design (especially transformer design calculations, active part design including lead exits, insulation, windings, nesting of coils and tank design) and transformer design calculations is an advantage
  • An expertise in controls, electrical, or instrumentation engineering, or equivalent experience in power transformers
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and a document management system such as Windchill or a similar platform
  • Experience with PLC programming or automation software is preferred, but not essential
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
  • A focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost, with a collaborative and accountable approach

A formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
