Job Requirements:
Associate’s degree
Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
CPC, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CCA, CCM
Expert knowledge, as applicable to area of responsibility: ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding methodologies
Navigation of inpatient and outpatient clinical records medical terminology
Anatomy and Physiology; DRGs, HACs, HAIs, HCCs, POAs, PSIs Professionalism and communication skills with experience in leading a team in a healthcare setting.
4-5 years’ experience in a related field
Assists Coding Manager and Supervisors with daily functions and supports coding staff. Serves as subject matter expert for coding staff and communicates/coordinates decisions with coding leadership. Provides coding expertise to coding staff and internal and external customers. Assigns and abstracts codes and data relative to all pertinent code and data sets in accord with official inpatient and outpatient guidelines. Provides training and education for assigned coding staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintains knowledge of current coding revisions and efficiently communicates changes to staff. Keeps up to date with current coding guidelines and education updates.
Customer Service: advocates Always Behaviors and always demonstrates a high standard of both internal and external customer service. Monitors and provides feedback to staff. Responds to issues, queries and concerns as needed and in a timely manner. Confidentiality is maintained and privacy respected. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity.
Leads and promotes a team environment that enhances partnership and cooperation through communication. Communicates effectively with key stakeholders including but not limited to coding staff, internal and external customers, clinicians, and service line leadership.
Assists with team member orientation and training. Is the resource for the team for identification of issues, resolution and/or escalation. Is proactive and encourages shared knowledge and skills with others, and coaches team members where necessary.
Supports coding supervisor in assisting coding staff in resolving coding issues and provides coding support and training.
Other job-related information:
To be successful in this role, an excellent understanding of clinical coding requirements is necessary as is the ability to communicate these to the team and other stakeholders as appropriate.
