Lead Clinical Medical Physicist

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. PSI is a pioneer in the field of proton therapy. It conducts technological and clinical research to optimize spot-scanning proton beam therapy and to expand the range of indications for proton radiotherapy. In addition to its research activities, PSI provides a clinical program for patients with indications approved for proton beam therapy within the Swiss health care system. At the Center for Proton Therapy CPT, deep-seated tumors are treated using two gantries, while ocular tumors are treated on a dedicated beam line. The medical physics research program focuses on advanced imaging, treatment planning, and proton therapy delivery.

Your tasks as a Group Leader

• Technical, organizational and personnel leadership of the Clinical Medical Physics Group and of the Therapy Planning team (therapy planning is integrated into the medical physics groups)
• Responsibility for the group budget, clinical duty service, working time monitoring and absence planning
• Coordination of the technical and administrative exchange of information across all organizational units
• Coaching and individual development of team members
• Clinical operational responsibility for medical physics activities at the facilities Gantry 2, Gantry 3 and Optis
• Leadership of clinical medical physics and therapy planning support
• Leadership and further development of the quality assurance program for all facilities
• Interest in the continuous modernization of the clinical program (digitalization, automation, efficiency, use of AI tools, …)
• Initiation of and contribution to strategic initiatives within the Medical Physicists Platform
• Initiation, leadership and participation in research and development projects in part in an inter-departmental collaboration
• Presentation of research and development results through scientific publications and contributions to national and international conferences

Your profile

• University degree in physics, medical physics or a related field
• Swiss certification in medical physics or an equivalent qualification recognized in Switzerland
• Substantial professional experience in radiotherapy
• Demonstrable leadership, communication and organizational skills
• Proven ability to set direction, think strategically, establish priorities, delegate responsibilities and monitor team activities
• Inspiring and empowering leadership style
• Strong aptitude for working in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams and building on individual strengths, all this in a collaborative spirit
• Ability to work effectively in a complex and fast-paced clinical and scientific environment
• Excellent command of English; working knowledge of German is an advantage
• Willingness to work irregular hours in accordance with patient treatment schedules
