Job Description

GE Vernova Renewable – Grid Integration product line is globally recognized for designing, manufacturing, and delivering customized 66kV to 765kV Substations, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), SVC & STATCOM solutions for utilities worldwide. Every solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore/onshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks.
We are looking for a Lead Civil & Structural Engineer to support HVDC, AIS & GIS EPC projects, responsible for Civil and structural design engineering of HVDC converter stations, AIS & GIS substations and associated infrastructure. He/she reports directly to engineering team leader.
The role focuses on engineering design, design review, optimization, and interdisciplinary coordination with electrical, mechanical, OEMs, vendors and project teams to deliver safe, economical and schedule compliant solutions.
This is a core design role within EPC project execution. Candidates primarily experienced in construction execution, maintenance or site supervision are not preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform civil and structural design for HVDC converter stations, AIS & GIS substations, including:
    • Valve halls, control buildings, GIS buildings, Pre-Engineered Building structures.
    • Foundations for transformers, reactors, harmonic filters, AC yard and GIS equipment
    • Steel structures- gantries, girders, towers, equipment support structures (lattice / pipe type)
    • Cable trenches, drainage systems, roads, and utility structures
  • Prepare and review GA drawings, structural layouts, design calculations, Single Line Diagram of structures and checking of detailed fabrication drawing and construction drawings prior to customer submission etc.
  • Proto inspection, correction requirement arises during proto stage, BOM preparation.
  • Ensure optimized and technically correct designs using appropriate grades of MS and high-tensile steel members to ensure overall profitability.

Interface & EPC Coordination

  • Interface with Electrical and Mechanical engineering teams to receive equipment loads, clearances and interface data timely in standard interface format.
  • Coordinate with OEMs for civil design inputs, load data, and technical clarifications.
  • Review and validate OEM civil and structural documents to ensure compliance with EPC scope, specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate with MEP, vendors and suppliers for integrated design solutions.
  • Take ownership of business KPIs with a hands-on approach, while following defined processes and contributing to continuous improvement.

Project & Tender Support

  • Support tender and project execution teams with civil design concepts, estimates, and technical clarifications.
  • Prepare and verify BOQs and civil/structural cost estimates during tender and execution stages.
  • Participate in proto inspections, resolve design issues and support BOM preparation.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering documents aligned with project schedules.

Standards, Quality & Safety

  • Apply relevant Indian Standards (IS) and international codes such as ACI, BS, Eurocodes.
  • Follow EPC quality systems and QMS-driven engineering processes.
  • Incorporate safety-by-design and EHS principles in all engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain proper documentation and design traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is an added advantage.

Experience

  • 8–12 years of experience in substation or HVDC civil and structural design.
  • Performed substation or HVDC civil/structural design independently.
  • Hands on experience in HVDC converter stations is highly preferred, AIS & GIS substation experience is mandatory.
  • Experience in EPC power transmission or utility-scale infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of HVDC, AIS and GIS substation civil engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as STAAD, ETABS, SAP2000.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM / 3D drafting tools.
  • Competency in MS Office, MS Excel, Mathcad for engineering calculations and documentation.
  • Good understanding of civil–electrical–mechanical interfaces impacting plant design.
