General Summary: The Lead Cash Posting Specialist serves as the operational lead and subject matter expert for payment posting, reconciliation, remittance processing, unapplied cash management, and payment variance resolution activities. This position provides day-to-day support, workflow coordination, training, and quality oversight for Cash Posting Specialists while maintaining an individual workload. The Lead Cash Posting Specialist promotes financial accuracy, supports month-end close activities, assists with EHR stabilization efforts, and drives improvements related to ERA, EFT, and payment posting processes.

As part of Revenue Cycle succession planning and professional development, this position will eventually cross-train within other Revenue Cycle functions, including Prevention Cycle, AR operations, Revenue Integrity, and Recovery Cycle after demonstrating proficiency in cash posting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily cash posting activities and workload assignments.
  • Monitor payment posting, adjustments, recoupments, and refund processing.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies and variances.
  • Monitor unapplied cash balances and reconciliation activities.
  • Assist with month-end reconciliation and financial close processes.
  • Monitor ERA and EFT activity and resolve remittance issues.
  • Serve as first escalation point for complex payment posting issues.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, quality reviews, and workflow coordination.
  • Support EHR optimization and automation efforts.
  • Manage Revenue cycle email.
  • Collaborate with Billing, Prevention Cycle, Recovery Cycle, Revenue Integrity, and Finance support functions.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

Minimum Required Experience: Three (3) years healthcare revenue cycle experience.Two (2) years payment posting, cash application, reimbursement, or reconciliation experience.

Preferred Experience: Five (5) years healthcare revenue cycle experience. Behavioral Health revenue cycle experience. Experience with ERA, EFT, reconciliation, and payment variance analysis. Experience with AHCCCS, Medicare, Commercial Insurance, PMPM, Case Rate, Tribal, and Grant-funded reimbursement models. Experience training and mentoring staff. EHR conversion or optimization experience.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Valid AZ DPS Level I fingerprint clearance card (must maintain valid card throughout employment).
