As a senior member of the IT Performance and Corporate Analytics team, the Lead Business Systems Consultant will work as a trusted business partner with leaders in Performance Analytics and Sustainable Investing as they execute strategies to increase automation and implement technologies to support the investment management strategy and reporting capabilities at IMCO.

This role is responsible for understanding organizational objectives, conducting thorough analyses, eliciting business and system requirements, designing detailed specifications, facilitating testing, implementing solutions, and supporting production operations.

The incumbent has strong leadership and communication capabilities, understanding of investment products and investment reporting and analytics to enable more effective recommendations and advice on solutions and technology.

The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver value-added solutions while ensuring compliance with IMCO’s procedures and maintaining the supportability of all investment applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as primary business partner and technical advisor to Performance Analytics and Sustainable Investment stakeholders
  • Lead implementation of new business functionality and capabilities such as data ingestion, data preprocessing, calculation and analytics engines and reporting and business intelligence solutions, but not limited to
  • Lead investment and reporting applications implementations, operational enhancements, and systems upgrades
  • Lead planning and discussions with stakeholders to ensure full understanding of organizational objectives, priorities, and requirements
  • Provide guidance and carry-out business analysis, and translate into technical specifications and solutions
  • Partner with all stakeholders, including investment management, IT teams, external vendors to ensure architecture alignment, and develop solutions to supports investment strategies and corporate objectives
  • Oversee and lead detail process mapping and document findings
  • Oversee and contribute to the improvement of team’s capabilities through systems and operational process enhancements
  • Contribute to business cases for systems implementations, and participate in RFP and due diligence processes
  • Direct design and build better access to data for business capabilities
  • Manage, design, and execute the testing process to ensure visibility, traceability, and execution to deliver high quality solutions
  • Support analysts and management on trade origination, generation, and execution as part of investment workflow
  • Investigate root causes when issues arise, recommend changes, oversee implementation, and maintain accurate documentation
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior members of the team
  • Disseminate knowledge and information with other staff in a collaborative manner
  • Think creatively to design solutions with a forward-thinking approach to best accommodate future opportunities in IMCO’s growing environment
  • Ensure adherence to IMCO’s processes and procedures, and the overall supportability of all solutions with proper documentation and training
  • Strive to improve environment stability by working with others to set up and maintain production configurations
  • Represent IT team to plan and execute Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning

What you need to succeed:

  • 10+ years’ experience in developing and supporting technology applications in the asset management or investment industry with 8 years in a business systems analysis or equivalent role
  • 2 years’ experience in a leadership role supporting software delivery projects
  • 5 years’ experience in supporting data management for companies specializing in financial products and advisory services
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Computer science, Engineering, or a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end delivery of technology solutions, including planning, design, requirements gathering and implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead business stakeholders in requirements sessions and facilitate planning sessions.
  • Direct work experience on implementing and extending Investment Performance Measurement and Analytics platforms and reporting (eg. Eagle PACE, MSCI, Factset, Ortech)
  • Exposure to onboarding and reporting on different investment asset classes and instrument types
  • Multiple implementation experience of public and private markets investment systems such as portfolio management and analytical systems, order management systems, and analytics platforms
  • Solid understanding of trading lifecycle, investment workflow and operational processing requirements
  • Direct experience working with Investment Performance stakeholders and building reporting capabilities
  • Strong understanding of investment performance concepts (e.g portfolio hierarchies, pnl, returns, attribution, contribution)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate comfortably with business and technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to play multiple hands-on roles such as project management, requirement analysis, solution design for future state, planning, testing, and solutions implementation
  • Practical knowledge of data management, data governance, MDM solutions and aggregation from multiple sources and investment reporting
  • Experience with systems and data integration with book of record applications and custody platforms
  • Prior leadership role in other investment IT organization
  • Knowledge of systems development life cycles including planning, requirement, analysis, design, build, testing, implementation and post-implementation activities in agile and waterfall approaches
  • Strong knowledge and experience in data onboarding to support the integration of new data sources into existing systems, ensure seamless data migration and transformation, develop and maintain documentation for data onboarding processes.
  • Proficiency with implementing scalable reporting platforms, BI and reporting tools
  • Familiar with investment policy statement that governs investment approaches and strategies for clients
  • Domain knowledge in IT service management such as incident management, change management, configuration management and operations management
  • Good understanding of agile practices, with experience operating in Kanban or Scrum for delivery.
  • Prior involvement with third-party vendors, internal and external operational audits
  • CFA, FRM, CBAP, PMI-ACP, CSC, Lean and/or Six Sigma, or PMP designation is preferred
  • Experience with Eagle Pace, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Platform is an asset
