A Brief Overview

As a member of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team, the Lead Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, and evolution of enterprise BI solutions that enable trusted, insightdriven decisionmaking. This role combines deep handson expertise with technical leadership, shaping BI standards, guiding solution design, and partnering closely with business, data enablement, and data science teams.

The Lead BI Developer is accountable for ensuring BI solutions are scalable, accurate, wellgoverned, and aligned to business priorities. In addition to handson delivery, this role provides technical direction, influences platform and visualisation standards, and drives adoption of best practices across the BI ecosystem.

What You Will Do

BI Strategy, Solution Design & Delivery Leadership

  • Lead the endtoend design and delivery of complex, enterprisegrade BI solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and analytical standards.
  • Act as a technical authority for BI solution design, visualisation standards, semantic modelling, and performance optimisation.
  • Translate complex business needs into scalable BI architectures and reporting solutions, balancing standardisation with flexibility.
  • Review and approve BI designs and implementations to ensure quality, consistency, and longterm maintainability.

Advanced BI Development & Visualization

  • Responsible for translating business needs into technical solutions by designing and developing complex dashboards with Power BI to advance visualisation techniques to meet business requirements, promote clear and effective insights while ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Drive advanced data analysis and visualisation approaches to surface trends, patterns, and insights across large and complex datasets.
  • Support business insights through the development of descriptive and diagnostic reporting, selecting appropriate visualisations to highlight trends, variances, and outliers.
  • Continuously improve storytelling, usability, and performance of dashboards consumed by senior leadership and business teams.

Data Analysis, Insight Enablement & Business Partnership

  • Guide and support analysis focused on modelling ideal customer profiles, business performance drivers, and operational insights.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to refine problem statements, success metrics, and analytical outcomes.
  • Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, executiveready insights that inform decisionmaking.

Data Integration & Platform Collaboration

  • Responsible for incorporating new data sources from third‑party applications for use in dashboards and reports, in conjunction with the data enablement team.
  • Partner with data engineering and platform teams to ensure source data is reliable, well‑modelled, and performant for BI consumption.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise standards for data quality, governance, access controls, and metric definitions.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Optimisation

  • Partner with the data science team to optimise database objects based upon business requirements, enabling advanced analytics, experimentation, and insight generation.
  • Collaborate with upstream teams on schema design, aggregations, and performance improvements that support both BI and advanced analytics use cases.
  • Serve as a bridge between BI, data engineering, and data science to ensure cohesive, end‑to‑end analytical solutions.

Technical Leadership, Standards & Mentorship

  • Provide day‑to‑day technical leadership and guidance to other BI Developers on the team.
  • Establish and evolve BI development standards, visualisation guidelines, naming conventions, and documentation practices.
  • Review code, dashboards, and semantic models; coach team members on performance optimisation and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in BI tooling, development practices, and delivery efficiency.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance BI capabilities, including adoption of new Power BI features and GenBI capabilities where appropriate.
  • Monitor usage, performance, and adoption of BI assets; refine solutions based on feedback and business needs.
  • Stay current with trends in BI, visual analytics, and enterprise reporting to inform platform and capability evolution.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field
  • Master’s Degree with Analytics or Data Science specialization preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Typically 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data reporting roles
  • Strong experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
  • Experience working with enterprise data warehouses and complex data ecosystems
  • Experience working with business stakeholders across multiple functions
  • BI Certifications like Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL300), Tableau or Looker certifications preferred
  • Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or equivalent BI certification are a plus

License and Certifications
