Lead Business Analyst/Scrum Master (Appian)

Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA seeking a Lead Business Analyst/Scrum Master with Appian experience This is a full-time and onsite position in Washington DC.

The Lead Business Analyst/Scrum Master will spearhead requirements gathering, user story creation, and agile ceremonies to enable successful Appian development initiatives. Acting as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the development team, this role ensures that user needs are clearly defined, prioritized, and translated into actionable user stories. The Lead Business Analyst/Scrum Master also facilitates sprint planning, backlog grooming, and other scrum ceremonies, ensuring the team stays on track and delivers maximum business value.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Gather, analyze, and document requirements in coordination with Product Owners (PO) and subject matter experts, translating them into user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
  • Lead scrum activities (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, grooming/refinement, demos, retrospectives) and remove impediments for the team to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Develop user stories that address functional needs, data handling, security, and 508 compliance.
  • Configure Jira to manage product backlogs, sprints, roadmaps, and to track team velocity and performance metrics.
  • Continuously refine product backlogs to reflect changing priorities, system improvements, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Work with Appian architects and developers to ensure requirements are feasible, align with best practices, and are delivered within planned sprints.
  • Provide thorough documentation (use cases, business process flows, training materials) and assist in user acceptance testing (UAT) and end-user training.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in a business analyst role on large-scale software development projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (4 additional years of relevant experience may substitute).
  • Proven experience leading scrum teams and acting as a Scrum Master for at least 4 years.
  • 3+ years configuring Jira to manage agile projects, track team velocity, and build product backlogs.
  • Solid track record working with Appian-based requirements and knowledge of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • SCRUM Master Certification (required).
  • Appian Analyst Certification (preferred).
