Job Description
Meta is seeking a data center lead building engineer to join our data center facility operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Lead Building Engineer will be a part of the Facility Operations team responsible for operating and maintaining critical systems in our data centers. They will be an individual contributor who provides day-to-day coordination and oversight of work over one or more buildings totaling around 70+ MW critical capacity.
The Lead Building Engineer will report to a Critical Operations Manager and will be expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the state of the data center buildings or property they oversee. The candidate will need experience across technical disciplines such as electrical generation, electrical distribution, cooling technologies, building control, and fire protection systems.
Responsibilities
Oversee the work for one or more 30MW+ data centers to ensure schedule deconfliction, work priority, maintenance compliance, procedural compliance, and team readiness
* Schedule and supervise vendors/subcontractors during equipment/systems maintenance and services
* Perform hands-on operations and maintenance, which includes all physical and administrative operations tasks, services, and maintenance, in accordance with site processes and procedures, to ensure optimal uptime, efficiency, and safety in accordance with site standards without disruption to the business
* Review all operating procedures, serve as the final approval authority on some procedures based on internal standards
* Support incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action closure for any operational issues that arise in the data center
* Achieve and maintain a high level of technical knowledge regarding data center infrastructure and operations. Successfully complete the personnel qualification standards (PQS) training
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Meta policies and standards and follow standards in all work
* Provide in-the-field training to Critical Facility Engineers and support the identification of training needs across the team
* Ensure the accuracy of work orders in the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system (Hexagon)
* Collaborate with peer Lead Building Engineers to deconflict work across campus and maintain consistency in operations between buildings
* Provide technical expertise and assistance as required
* Regularly inspect equipment, buildings, safety routes and grounds to check or identify any abnormal or unsafe conditions or faults
* Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend system upgrades
* Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs through the procurement and inventory management system
* Escalate issues to facility management appropriately and in a timely manner
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or other technical maintenance fields
* Proficient with maintenance management programs
* Proficient with computer systems, including documents, spreadsheets, and email
* Ability to regularly walk job site areas of flat and uneven terrain
* Ability to work at varying heights and from ladders
* Ability to use hands and fingers
* Ability to reach, push, pull with hands, arms, and shoulders
* Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
* Ability to lift and/or otherwise move forty-five pounds or more
* Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods of time Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety monitoring and control systems typically used in critical environments
* 7+ years of experience in a data center or other critical environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
* Bachelor’s Degree, Associates Degree, Trade Certification or state licensure in Electrical or Mechanical (HVAC)
* Experience in interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
