This position works in close partnership with the location Manager and The Flipside Team to promote safety, communication, development and excellence in customer service by providing day-to-day leadership in the managers absence and/or as directed by manager. Also works with manager and team in reviewing processes, seeking input, and working to improve our processes. This position is also responsible to perform the duties of a Counter Server. Responsible to consistently role model our Core Values.

Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Performs the duties of both the Counter Server and Pizza and Sandwhich Crafter, plus acts as day to day lead for The Flipside as directed by the location Manager.

  • Site Safety Point Person to help assure safe practices by team and follow-up on any safety concerns in partnership with manager and/or in managers absence.

  • Helps conduct shift meetings and safety meetings. Maintains records of meetings, topic(s) covered and all attendees.

  • Leads day to day problem solving with team, as directed by manager such as customer service question or concern resolution.

  • Provides day to day coaching and development guidance to team in the spirit of being better together.

  • Lead trainer for The Flipside team. May participate in development or revision of team training as needed. Ensures consistent training following established training protocols and requirements.

  • Lead in market for consistent adaptation of Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) in partnership with manager.

  • Master user of the Tablet, Point of Sale System. Facilitates and coaches effective adaptation and use of various software, including Paycom, Test Team Trainer, etc.

  • Compiles reports and provides input as requested or assigned.

  • Provide excellent customer service to guests and instills the same in the team.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required plus 6 months successful performance as a Counter Server team member.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years successful performance as a server, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Previous restaurant operations experience strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience with compiling data and producing accurate, informative reports for management and executive leadership.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations (note if Required or Preferred):

  • Food Handlers Card

  • MAST Certification

Equipment and Software Requirements:

  • Square POS preferred

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)

Our company began in 1925 with a 55-gallon barrel of heating oil strapped to the back of a Ford truck. You can see from the timeline below that Wilcox + Flegel has grown incredibly since 1925, but at the end of the day, we don’t feel so different.

We’re still a fuel distributor dedicated to hard work, ingenuity, and value. We currently own 13 convenience stores with gas, two truck stops with gas and stores, the Indy Way Diner restaurant, 30 cardlocks, 49 properties, and 100 vehicles. We partner with retail brands such as Chevron, Texaco, Shell, 76, Valero, Flying K, and US Ethanol. We also offer Phillips 66 branded lubricants and cardlocks from CFN and Pacific Pride.

We’re a large company now, which gives us the strength and flexibility to offer great service to our customers, but when I walk around our offices, I forget how much we’ve grown. I see faces that I’ve known for years. I see my son, Aaron, working hard to keep this company growing in its third generation of business. I see 350 people who make this company tick, but Wilcox + Flegel will always feel like a family to me—because, I suppose, it is.
