As a Lead Behavior Specialist, you will play a key role in creating safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments where students with diverse behavioral and educational needs can thrive. Working closely with school leadership and the VP of Behavior Services, this position supports the development and implementation of schoolwide, classroom-based, and individualized positive behavior support strategies.

‖ Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing ongoing coaching, technical guidance, and hands-on support to school staff in implementing positive behavior programs that promote student success and meaningful outcomes.
  • Training team members on behavior intervention and instructional strategies that help students develop replacement behaviors and generalize skills across classroom and community settings.
  • Supporting the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and contributing to the development and implementation of effective Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Coordinating behavior support activities and strategies aligned with individual student plans, including measurable goals, objectives, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Partnering with special education and instructional staff to develop data collection systems, monitor student progress, analyze behavioral data, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and instructional strategies.
  • Providing technical assistance and training on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies, including discrete trial training, classroom scheduling, behavior management, and individualized instructional strategies.
  • Responding to crisis and escalation situations using proactive, least-restrictive, and trauma-informed approaches, including effective de-escalation techniques, appropriate safety procedures, and approved physical intervention practices when necessary.
  • Serving as a first responder during behavioral crises to help maintain student and staff safety while supporting continuity of instruction and school operations.
  • Completing required crisis management training and supporting colleagues in effectively managing behavioral escalation and crisis situations.
  • Following established health, safety, emergency, and universal precaution procedures, including requirements related to bloodborne pathogens, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Conducting regular fidelity reviews to support consistent implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans, Student Behavior Strategies, and classroom management practices.
  • Documenting student behavior, interventions, observations, and outcomes accurately and promptly in accordance with school procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Communicating behavioral observations, trends, and recommendations to appropriate team members while maintaining the confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Preparing behavioral reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation to support student programming, compliance, and team decision-making.
  • Participating in team meetings, supervision sessions, staff meetings, teacher meetings, annual planning activities, and multidisciplinary or action team meetings as assigned.
  • Supporting student supervision across school environments and activities, including classrooms, lunchrooms, arrival and dismissal areas, field trips, recreational spaces, and other assigned settings.
  • Providing student supervision and behavioral support during transportation to and from school when requested and in accordance with school or district procedures.
  • Traveling between assigned school sites and ChanceLight locations as needed to provide classroom, student, and program support.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development and training to remain current on behavioral principles, evidence-based practices, organizational policies, and applicable procedures.
  • Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support students, staff, and overall school operations.

‖ Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a closely related field of study highly.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid OH state drivers license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a registered behavior technician (RBT) credential highly preferred.
  • Prior experience providing behavioral instruction, guidance and/or support to children; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
  • Prior experience working under the supervision of a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) in an educational and/or clinical setting.
  • Highly skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders and/or other related disabilities.
  • Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA) including functional behavior assessment (FBA), positive behavior interventions and support (PBIS) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's) preferred.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
