ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a
Lead Backend Engineer
to design and build scalable microservices in Golang as part of a large-scale cloud-native modernization initiative, migrating from a legacy PHP monolith to a service-oriented architecture on Google Cloud Platform. You will own infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, migrate data and logic to Cloud SQL and Spanner, ensure high performance across Cloud Run and GKE, and collaborate with mobile engineers on API schemas and requirements. The role requires strong GCP experience, Kafka familiarity, and active use of AI-assisted development tools.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design and develop scalable microservices using Golang for transactional systems;
- Take ownership of infrastructure provisioning using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code);
- Migrate data and logic from a legacy PHP monolith to Cloud SQL/Spanner;
- Collaborate with mobile engineers to define API schemas and requirements;
- Ensure high performance and reliability of services deployed to Cloud Run/GKE;
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
MUST HAVES
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field;
- 5+ years of backend software development experience;
- Strong proficiency in Go (Golang), Java, or Python. Willingness to learn Golang is required, alongside the ability to switch seamlessly between programming languages without compromising production speed;
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery;
- Experience with Kafka;
- Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools;
- Solid understanding of Microservices architecture and distributed systems;
- Experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases;
- Experience building high-traffic systems;
- Advanced developer patterns using Claude and AI tooling;
- Upper-intermediate English level.
NICE TO HAVES
- Ability to read and understand PHP;
- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers;
- Experience with Event-Driven Architecture.
